The hard stress and strain is still the same at the clutch end of the clutch cable @ trans.  

But overall you are correct, the stress where most cables break is at the hand lever......mostly because the pivot pin barrel) is not regularly lubed.  

Use motorcycle chain lube (preferably with Moly) spray can with long nozzle to reach into where it is needed is perfect way to keep the barrel well lubed and only takes 2-3 seconds with everything in place.

I ordered and installed an EZ Clutch pull from Bench Mark Works some time ago and really like the greatly reduced clutch pull.

Well I found out  today that due to the greatly reduced clutch pull, the clutch cable will now last a lot longer, IOW much less pull on the cable = far longer clutch cable life and that reduces the necessity to have to carry an extra clutch cable. Although I still will carry an extra one!
