I don’t know who’s right or wrong but around 5 Yrs ago on a 8 hr ride on my 74 R90S thru the mountain’s with a lot of up & down shifting my hand became numb & useless by day end. Installed the EZ clutch when I got home and it’s been effortless to shift ever since and no problems with clutch or cable ware.
Just my experience so far

I've had an EZ clutch on three of my Airheads and none have experienced any issues with thousands of miles and rough shifting at times on my part. One has over 60k miles with no problems. I've used the EZ clutch on both 4 speeds and 5 speeds. Part of my regular maintenance is to check the adjustment which takes just a few minutes. The difference in the clutch pull is well worth the investment. It's a very straight forward fulcrum concept that I've found to work wonderfully especially with these older hands of mine.

There actually is plenty of disengagement, clutch and gear disengagement has been discussed at length with Reg Pridmore at many CLASS courses as he discusses proper shifting techniques and application of the clutch and clutch lever at length at all his classes.
