Indeed.........going up that dirt & rocky road in the heavy rain barely doing 15
mph to avoid big rocks and trenches that would grab the front tire and down on
your ass was a handful with the very narrow RS handlebars.

Once we got to the top some 6 miles of this, the steel barrier was across the
road so Mark says let's go around it. Now mind you the water is coming down the
hillside enough that we can't see if the side of the road is 2" deep or 20"
deep. He stayed on his R100RS and several of us pushed him into the water hole
and kept him going to get around the steel bar barrier.

Next was my turn on my R90S-RS with my tippy toes barely touching the ground
under normal circumstances. I often put my foot down and there was nothing
there. Nearly dropped it several times, but I kept the rear wheel spinning and
got through the gully and around the steel post. Not what RS BMW's were
designed for that's for damn sure.

Up the road we went another mile or so and it leveled off and was a nice picnic
camping area......then the rain stopped. Thank you !!

By the time each of us got our tents set-up, Will and Mark had a fire going with
a large tarp and picnic table we used to set-up for dinner.
Then the Park Rangers stopped by to warn us about leaving food out as there was
quite a few bears in the area.

Excellent dinner cooked by Will and Mark had us all well fed and happy campers.
Several scotches and most of us were done for a early turn-in. It was a
excellent long day ride so I barely made it to 9 before I turned in.

That was a hard day of riding through a tremendous rain event and questionable
terrain for all- especially those on RS and S bikes with narrow low bars! The
reward was spectacular. I recall reaching the top of the mountain and people all
pitched in setting up camp. I worked to erect the massive brown tarp with help
from others, Zwicky and Mac cut firewood and got a fire going, and then skies
fully cleared and we were treated to a night with a brilliant moon and many
stars. Dave Fish had star charts with him. We tracked the movement of the
planets across the sky and had a ball just being out there. The next day some
lucky riders managed to dodge the rain on the way back, and others were not so
lucky!

Mark pulled off one of his spectacular deserts that evening which included
softened fresh pears over chocolate pudding with a crushed granola topping. It
was tremendous, and there was a lot of conversation about those pajamas. He was
un-phased with Scotch in hand and loving every minute of it.

That is just one of many classic Mark memories.

Will
