[PAAirheads] !966 R 27 electronics switch problem

Hello fellow friends of older BMWs.
I have a sweet R27. Problem is when I push in the key, the headlight and parking lamp will not come off. Also, I cannot feel anything when I rotate the key.... there should be some clicks or pulses when the key shifts let or right.
All else works, . 
Any ideas?
How do I get the switch assy out of the headlight shell?? 
Stumped (for the moment) in Glenville, PA.
