Both the Neutral Switches, at the Transmission & Clutch Perch, are Normal Open when in the above situation. Fused 12V power is supplied to Pin 12 - Neutral Light, in the Instrument Cluster. A Switched Ground for the Neutral Light, is at Pin 6 - Neutral Light in the Instrument Cluster. I think this is the power source for the bulb. Simultaneously, Fused 12V power is also supplied to Pin 86 at the Starter Relay. The Switched Ground from Pin 6, joins with a Switched Ground from the Transmission Neutral Switch. They connect to Pin LLK Cathode Terminal of the Diode, in the head light nacelle. The Anode Terminal of the Diode, 85b, splits into two(2) Switched Leads (power ?) Following the split, one(1) lead then goes to Pin 50 - Starter Thumb Switch. Companion lead goes to the Clutch Neutral Switch The other pin of the Starter Thumb Switch, Pin 85, continues to the Pin 85 of the Starter Relay; combines with the Fused 12V at Pin 86, to activate the Starter Relay and energize the Starter Solenoid. It appears to me, that the Diode, Pin 85b & Pin LLK, is Reverse Biased; as compared to Forward Biased... anyone ? I can't figure out how, with both the Clutch & Transmission Neutral Switches open, the Pin 6 - Switched Ground in the Instrument Cluster, gets grounded; to illuminate the Neutral Light ! I presume that when the Transmission is in gear, the near zero resistance of the Switched Ground to Ground at the Transmission Neutral Switch, is an easier conductive path then, the resistance of the Neutral Light; which is why it is not illuminated. If this has given anyone a headache, take two(2) ibuprofen with 'One Can' of your favorite beverage and ride away. Some build them up to be tourers, other's build them down to be canyon carvers, some do double duty. In any case, their creativity and unique perspective is entertaining. Not only that, it provides ideas for other members. I'd like to do an issue featuring members bikes titled "My airhead". If you'd like to share your creativity or enthusiasm, please take some interesting shots and send them to me with an attached story. Jpeg attachments are preferable. Deadline for the March issue is the 15 of this month (9 days away). Please get your article in as soon as possible? I'm also seeking coverage of events, travel stories, etc. Have a great week. Todd I have looked all over U tube to no avail, so I ask the experts. Had my tank repainted. Need to put the knee grips back on. Is there a slick way to do this? Heat up, get pliable and go for it? Start top or bottom first? Does it matter? After what I spent to get this tank really nice, I would hate to ding it up. Any suggestions?? Ron lives in the mountains of New Hampshire, an Army vet, been riding his whole life, class of ?52, just like me. Born of French Canadian parents, very independent and operates completely off the grid. No credit cards, no cell phones, no answering service, pays everything with cash, a self described recluse and I swear his land line is an old dial tone. He is not easy to reach, I usually have to call a few times in order to catch him. Most likely outside chopping and stacking firewood, his only heat source. Ron is a long distance rider also. He has a couple R100 boxers, both with 11 gallon Heinrich tanks and puts them to good use. I first met Ron at the BMW Finger Lakes Rally around 40 years ago, he would be there every year without fail. Karl Duffner and I used to look forward to running into Ronnie and listening to his stories. Karl would of course respond with a few good ones himself. I swear the Canadians are by far the best story tellers. Ronnie would go on for hours telling one story after another giving us a good laugh. So after trying for a few days, I finally reached Ronnie, it?s been a few years and he doesn?t recognize me a first. I told him I was looking for ?The Fool on the Hill?, then he figures out who it is and is happy to hear from me. He told me his birthday was the day prior. I told him, if he would answer his phone once in awhile, I wouldn?t have been late with my birthday greeting. Ronnie?s been laying low lately, said he didn?t ride at all last year, mostly virus related, just being extra cautious and generally acting like the recluse he is, but we both agreed, what ?A big old goofy world? it is we are living in. We talked for hours, trying to catch up the best we could. It?s riding friends like Ronnie that I miss the most....his big smile, long bushy beard and non stop stories are precious. So we talked and talked and I listened to all his stories, before we said our farewells he left me with a story by one of his good friends Glenn Hall and here it goes: True Story. Glenn Hall is a free spirited long distance rider who crisscrosses the country frequently. On one occasion many, many years ago, Glenn was riding his R90 six in the southwestern part of the country on a long lonely highway and had the throttle wide open, traveling the speed of sound as there was nobody anywhere in sight...until he crested this hill, where a state trooper was parked on the other side. Glenn knew he was dead to right, pulled over on the side of road, turned off the engine, when the seasoned trooper sauntered over slowly, uniform clean and neatly pressed, belt buckle in perfect alignment, his Drill Instructors hat angled forward at just the proper angle, stared directly into Glenn?s eyes and said in a deep deliberate voice ?You know............I?ve been waiting here all day for someone like you? ! Without hesitation Glenn immediately responded, ?Well officer, I got here as fast as I could?.
