I took a rear brake switch apart yesterday and repaired it. It was not
assembled with the thought that it should be disassembled, but it was easy
enough to get it apart and put it back together again. I did it because it
was quicker than waiting for a new one to arrive... it is reinstalled and
working as it should.

Many of these older components are serviceable.  I have cracked open blower
motors in old cars to replace brushes, resoldered leads on heater controls,
and disassembled car radios to clean potentiometers.

I figure, it's already not working- what is to lose other than time if you
can't get it back together and working.
