To protect his anonymity, I cropped the picture. We got the rear wheel off and bearings out without any issues. After going through the parts, the best course of action was the replace the bearings. Though plenty of fresh grease was found, signs of fretting was evident. With a fresh set of cleaned bearings lightly oiled, we proceeded to set the preload. Once the correct shim was identified, the bearings were packed. All parts were assembled on an axle with a spacer to be able to keep everything tight. Into a ziploc bag and in the freezer it went while we enjoyed some lunch. After lunch and with heat source in hand, we heated the hub and were able to drop the bearing stack in with no issue. All in all a good day knowing all is well with the bearings, grease and seals. A few test laps around the neighborhood.. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
