As an airhead I've always been an optimist when believing in the ability of
people doing the right thing... of course that trust has always been
narrowly applied to people who own, ride, and maintain their own type 247
machines.

I reluctantly admit my slight distrust of owners and newer models, while
owning a K1100RS myself... Maybe, I am, even slightly wary of myself...

All that said, $40 cash left on a picnic table from my perspective is a
rally contribution!

LDoS 2021... We will all be together again soon.

With all the time we have own our hands, the bikes should be tip-top by
spring!

I had one brave participant show up. To protect his anonymity, I cropped the picture.

 We got the rear wheel off and bearings out without any issues. After going through the parts, the best course of action was the replace the bearings. Though plenty of fresh grease was found, signs of fretting was evident. 

With a fresh set of cleaned bearings lightly oiled, we proceeded to set the preload. Once the correct shim was identified, the bearings were packed. All parts were assembled on an axle with a spacer to be able to keep everything tight. Into a ziploc bag and in the freezer it went while we enjoyed some lunch. 

After lunch and with heat source in hand, we heated the hub and were able to drop the bearing stack in with no issue. 

All in all a good day knowing all is well with the bearings, grease and seals. 

A few test laps around the neighborhood..

I did swap the tire and tube on the chair as well. Pulling the tube, the valve stem stayed in the rim hole. I wonder how the damn thing stayed together and held air!!

I finally sourced a good used centerstand. The original was missing. Next will be to separate the Sidecar from the bike and pull the trans. Clutch and swingarm bearing inspection is next. As well as lubing the clutch splines, of course. 

Anyone interested in helping with the next chapter??

The color is Avis Black,very common.

The hard part is finding someone who will hand stripe the tank 
correctly.

There is always Holt in OH. Expensive, but I have yet to see a better 
paint job. All of their work is like glass, better than factory.

Let me know what you find, I am in a very similar situation.

Walt,

Jim Farver's body shop in Hanover has a generally good reputation.  I don't know whether they would just paint a motorcycle tank, but Jim is a BMW guy.  I don't know whether he is still active in the business, but you might try:  435 Penn Street in Hanover  717 637 1230.  Jim may not be in the best of health.  I met him a few years back at Chris Kennedy's TechnoBarn.  Almost certainly they do not pinstripe.  If Larry Spangler still does paint work, he's very good and in Hanover.

Probably the best looking welds of any Swing Arm I've come across; most likely machine welded.
I harvested the Cushion Driveshaft for a project.

Tom, no BMW part number for it that I know of.
The Clearwater lights on our R80G/Ss use this relay to operate with the
integrated horn function but the one we are using has physically failed;
when pushing on the electrical connections one male connector on the relay
was pushed back, causing the relay points to connect all the time.
So figure Bosch is the way to go for stronger construction. But a digital
option is being looked at as well.

Most relays (especially Bosch) have a physical diagram on them that clearly show how it operates electrically so they are easy to understand the male/female plug-in connection.?

This said eBay & Amazon have thousands of these relays as they are common as hamburgers.? ?Simply match the electrical amps, volts and terminal plug-in connection diagram.

Btw.......Bosch and most of the world has their relays made in China, so don't get hung-up on a brand name these days.? I use these relays on my bikes.? Work fine.?
