I believe that was Seneca Rocks.

I came late to the party, but.....
I think the guy that organized FoFs went by the name Rocket Man.  I had heard he moved on to another type of  motorcycle.  He was on the BMWBMW forums.  Hmm...  I think he also changed his online name to something else.  Or maybe it was the other way around.  I don?t remember things so well anymore.

I went out to what may have been the last of those events.  Rocket Man did not show but we had a good time.  I heard stories it used to be quite the event.  Certainly a beautiful place to hold a rally.  My son tells me the Princess Snowbird campground has a new bathhouse.

Have two sets of cylinders and pistons.? Both sets in good condition for restoration use.?? Both sets are /5 cylinders.? First set is an R50 and second set is an R75.? No rings, just matching pistons and cylinders.? Both sets have the bores re-honed.? Need some cleaning.?? Open to any reasonable offer on either set.



Flywheel is in great condition.? Teeth show minimal wear.? It's for late /6 and beyond.? 95 tooth gearing (9 tooth starter) and smaller M11 bolt holes.? Will not work on l5 and early /6 models requiring the earlier M10 sized bolts. ? $50 plus shipping for the flywheel.

Hello gang,If anybody remembers my quest to check my ignition wires resistance in place at Grimes, I have the answer.Oak in the CHITECH Electric school manual recommends checking wires this way at every service. The value for any BMW made after 1981(5,000 ohm resisters) is 22,000 -30,000 Ohm spark plug connector to spark plug connector.I knew I wasn't crazy. OK maybe I am crazy, but I was right about this method.Tim

Bike has 254,064 miles, all but the first 7,000 are mine. I'm the second owner, since spring, 1977.

A personal friend of mine is a professional auto and bike wrench, and did the following R90s work for me about 5-6 years ago:

Original after-market saddle bags, with latches which from day one could not be trusted.  My solution was to bind each saddle bag with woven one-inch, red nylon bands latched at the ends with a set of snap-on clasps.

I usually like to head out to the rally a day early on Wednesday and enjoy
some riding Thursday before people start showing up...

This year, I am not going to make it out there until the evening Thursday.

The entire loop site is reserved for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday so set

It's been my experience that Garmin special sale models are not the ones you 
really want.

If you are one that likes to plan-out point to point turn by turn rides on your 
pc and download them to your GPS, then for the time being a GPS is what you want 
to keep using.

For the rest of us where it's all about the ride and really don't care where we 
are or where we go, then a smart phone running Goggle maps and WAZE (great for 
mapping and seeing where the cops are in live reports from other WAZE 
users).....is the way to go.

Like many here I still have Garmin's in my car & on my bikes.....but using them 
less and less as they are less reliable & more prone to errors vs live Goggle 
maps & WAZE....both free on my iPhone......so why spend $200--$800 on another 
Garmin?

Btw......once you program a trip on your smart phone in Google maps & WAZE with 
cell service or home WiFi (or any McDonalds) ......even when you loose cell 
service the maps are on your phone and will continue to work....and will hook 
back up to the next cell service area you get into.  My 5 yr old iPhone does 
this.

I?ll second that one Gabriel. A few friends and I started a monthly breakfast ride where it?s one person?s duty to plan the restaurant and route. We usually shoot for 30-40 miles one way and a second stop about the same after breakfast. Toby downloaded the app and the roads it took us on were PERFECT! Much better than the typical avoid highways and tolls of Google Maps. And free too?! How perfect!

 By the way, did you know that an old iPhone can still be used as a GPS?? No service provider needed!
What usually drives an iPhone into retirement is an expiring battery.? But you can wire up a charger and cable to the electrical system on your bike and it'll work just fine.

I suspect most old smart phones could be pressed into service.? And I also suspect most Airheads have old smart phones that they couldn't bring themselves to throw away.? We're all of us cheap b*st*rds, doncha know?

It's been my experience that Garmin special sale models are not the ones you 
really want.

If you are one that likes to plan-out point to point turn by turn rides on your 
pc and download them to your GPS, then for the time being a GPS is what you want 
to keep using.

For the rest of us where it's all about the ride and really don't care where we 
are or where we go, then a smart phone running Goggle maps and WAZE (great for 
mapping and seeing where the cops are in live reports from other WAZE 
users).....is the way to go.

Like many here I still have Garmin's in my car & on my bikes.....but using them 
less and less as they are less reliable & more prone to errors vs live Goggle 
maps & WAZE....both free on my iPhone......so why spend $200--$800 on another 
Garmin?

Btw......once you program a trip on your smart phone in Google maps & WAZE with 
cell service or home WiFi (or any McDonalds) ......even when you loose cell 
service the maps are on your phone and will continue to work....and will hook 
back up to the next cell service area you get into.? My 5 yr old iPhone does 
this.

 I?m glad to hear a meaningful discussion and sharing of ideas after a simple sale notice.  I learned of options, app wise, I had never run across.

To focus on the phones as GPS devices, if one prefers that method, I like Ed?s idea of using an older phone for a gps.  I have killed a phone or two in the past from vibration in excess of the phones design parameters.  Killed as in a dead phone.  No way to call for assistance.  My preference would be to not be totally dependent on just one device.  Whatever mix that happens to be.

Thank you to Will Andalora and William Teasley for providing and maintaining the kitchen.  Often I heard riders planning their days ride that they wanted to be sure of their turn-around point because they did not want to miss dinner.

I had a nice ride with David Hamburger and  May and Will Andalora.  David?s longest ride in several years.  Congratulations David.  His Hodaka certainly got a lot of looks this weekend.

We were again graced with John and Bradley who rode from 6AM to 9PM to be with us again.  Even as far away as Massachusetts they had heard of the culinary offerings at LDoS.  The food combined with easy access to WV roads prove to be a continuing attraction.

And again, thank you to Mark Lipschitz for his vision and drive in putting together the enjoyable times we all share together.

Thank you to everyone who attended our sixth annual LDoS.  The weather
cooperated, we enjoyed some good riding, good food, and had a few new
attendees.  The rally was smaller this year than in years past, but the
small intimate atmosphere allowed ample time for catching up and telling
lies...

Much to Laura's chagrin Mae has grown to a height that makes her a good
motorcycle passenger... She truly loves being on the bike, so I let her
play hooky Friday (all homework is online now, so she didn't miss a step
there...) to go camping and ride motorcycles #bestdadever!..  Mae and I
headed out Thursday evening. Laura and Cash arrived Friday, but had to
leave Saturday evening. A short rally for them this year...

This year I hauled my Yamaha XT225 dirt bike out there again on the newly
incarnated chuck wagon/moto transport trailer.  Friday Mae and I went for a
beautiful 60 mile ride with David Hamburger on his 1972 Hodaka 100cc
2-stroker, and Jim McKinna astride his 1994 R100GS. Jim really never left
2nd gear, I was able to shift into 5th gear a few times, and David was in
every gear of his bike every 10 seconds to pull the 'hills' around there!
It was a hoot.

Bradley Barrus and John Vanhook rode the 550 miles from Massachusetts on
Wednesday again this year and spent the next three days piling on miles.
They decided to stay an extra day and are likely somewhere in PA or NY at
the time of this writing on their way back north. Others traveled from NY
down to Southern, Virginia and one guy was on his way back to Detroit!
Good to know LDoS is drawing a wide geographic range of riders these days...

Several riders came from Todd Trumbore's rally with nothing but good things
to say. I was bummed to have missed it...

Fred Teasley and the lovely Charlotte assisted with meals and clean up this
year.  I think I've found a new partner(s) to aid in putting the event
together and everything went smoothly. We worked well together. The only
thing that may have suffered was the timing of coffee service, as both Fred
and I were dragging a bit Saturday and Sunday mornings...

We dined on red beans and rice with slow cooked leg quarters Friday evening
and beef Bourguignon and roasted potatoes Saturday. Food was well received
and well consumed. Very few leftovers which made clean up a breeze.

A toast was raised to Mark Lipschitz Saturday evening along with many fond
reminiscences... Conserve your implements!

Saturday afternoon Rob Price and I called Eric Aspden to see where he was!
He was sitting on a dozer and said he would be there in seven hours.  We
thought he was half joking, then around 9:00 PM he and Jill rolled in!  It
was great seeing them and what a commitment. They were at the rally for
about 13 hours!

We missed Eric Zwicky again this year as he was down and out with a
terrible cold... Next year Eric!
