Recently a friend brought his bike to me complaining it seemed to be like the clutch slipping. I pulled it down and inspected the clutch. No issues there, plate and spring in great condition. Clutch rod adjustment was correct. Before putting the transmission back in I checked the rear flange and bingo. The flange had been removed at least twice before in the past and along the line Loctite blue or another sealant had been applied to the shaft. It had caked and the flange was not properly seated.
So, if you do reinstall the rear flange for whatever reason be sure to check to make sure the output shaft, the flange, the washer, and the nut are thoroughly cleaned of old Loctite or sealant. You'll get a positive lock of the flange on the shaft and the power transmitted to the rear drive completely. You can dribble in some Loctite as you tighten up the nut but if you do be sure to clean it if you have to remove the flange another time. And don't let the chunks fall into the bearing!
