We are only about halfway to a capacity of 150 attendees, which is roughly my break-even point. I hope more sign up soon, or I will be taking a big bath on this one. I was hoping to have enough R80GS and R65LS owners interested, but if so, they are taking their time signing up and this has me a bit nervous. I'm very close to opening this event up to more boxer enthusiasts, i.e. R90S and R100RS riders. I have been working very hard for over a year organizing and planning this event and Hans A. Muth and George Schorsch Martin have been working on a special presentation for all attendees for the past year also. If you are thinking of attending, please register as soon as you are able and feel free to bring a BMW boxer riding friend with you. Click onto the website http://www.r80gs.org for all the details and if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Many special guests and lots of activities planned, I hope to see you here for this special event, which will be Hans A. Muth's final visit with us. Dave and Ellen Cushing had a great event at his place in N.J. The weather was perfect, the comrade was eclectic, knowledgeable, experienced, and as always, the food was filling and delicious. There were a couple of good jobs going on; a top end assembly on the lift and in the bay was the two tire/tube removal and mountings. Both tasks ended with boundless success. All in all, it was a five star day. As I understood the conversation with Dave, the only downside was the news that Dave and Ellen are selling and moving away. This Airhead tradition he created will come to an end and I for one will miss all the good times I have experience over the years in Dave?s Garage. Somebody please tell me it isn?t so. I forgot to ask who will mind the AirStore? Is Dave going to continue wearing that hat? Through out the day, old acquaintances were renewed and new friends were made. He trailered it home to put the finishing touches to it. Thanks to the supermen who carried the executive desk and credenza out of our house & into the garage. If you know of anyone looking to furnish an office space with a couple of good pieces let me know. I have pictures. Thanks again for coming to our expected last tech day/get together in this location. Hope to see you at the MOA or RA rallies later this year. Here's what I'm experiencing. When first started and warming up the bike idles nicely at around 1k-1100 after initial time.? In neutral with the clutch out or with the clutch in.? After the bike warms up the idle remains around 1k-1100 until I pull the clutch in.? Then the idle drops to below 900 and sometimes lower and nearly stalls.? It makes no difference if it's in gear or not when the clutch is pulled in.? The results are the same.? I've set the idle higher to around 1200 in neutral and yet when I pull the clutch in it drops to below 1k and starts to idle rough.? Only does this after the bike has warmed up.? When cold if I pull the clutch in there's no noticeable drop.?? I've double-checked the clutch rod free play and it's correct.? It's a new clutch and spring assembly.?? I've played with the DellOrto settings but it still happens.? It appears to be heat related.? Does this both in the garage and out on the road. Any ideas or suggestions?? Am thinking about attending the somerset event. Can anyone tell me about it or give me some suggestions. I am not a camper, so will need motel. Will putt from Hanover, PA area probably the day before event starts. Not sure. Any group passing my way going there? If so, would it be possible to join as you pass thru?? I don't want to be a bother! Am 73 and like to get off bike every hour-hour.5 if possible. My 500 mile days are over. My phone is 717 229 2840. Any suggestions/info much appreciated. Safe riding to all. PA "infamous" Tent Float was a hoot. I also learned a lot of maintenance tips from very helpful folks.? The cuisine was remarkable in itself. I observed incredible can content tossing into the immaculately sanitary pot overwatched by chefs untrained in the best high school home eck class tradition. Had no effect. Food was great. Fire Dept did a great job on the catered supper. Really good hospitality and some beautiful R 75 etc there to appreciate. One with over 300,000 on the clock. Thanks to our PA? Airmarshall and all who put on this fun event. Looking forward to next year. I pulled it down and inspected the clutch.? No issues there, plate and spring in great condition.? Clutch rod adjustment was correct.?? Before putting the transmission back in I checked the rear flange and bingo.? The flange had been removed at least twice before in the past and along the line Loctite blue or another sealant had been applied to the shaft.? It had caked and the flange was not properly seated.? So, if you do reinstall the rear flange for whatever reason be sure to check to make sure the output shaft, the flange, the washer, and the nut are thoroughly cleaned of old Loctite or sealant.??? You'll get a positive lock of the flange on the shaft and the power transmitted to the rear drive completely.? You can dribble in some Loctite as you tighten up the nut but if you do be sure to clean it if you have to remove the flange another time.? And don't let the chunks fall into the bearing! larry m From rubberchickenracing at gmail.com Thu May 30 12:28:13 2019 From: rubberchickenracing at gmail.com (Tom Cutter) Date: Thu, 30 May 2019 12:28:13 -0400 Subject: [PAAirheads] Slipping Issues In-Reply-To: <1e52c9e1-33eb-48a1-8e94-1b8c05543157@me.com> References: <1e52c9e1-33eb-48a1-8e94-1b8c05543157@me.com> Message-ID: There is NO need whatsoever for Loctite on a properly tightened flange nut.
