    Saturday August 24 at 9am we will be taking apart the cutaways for a
rehab and refresh session at Bob Sipp's house in Bethlehem PA.

Today marks 2 weeks since my open heart surgery; the rebuilt ticker
improves each day.


As a Airhead and GA pilot, Grimes is one of my favorite seasonal
gatherings, one I look forward to each year, rain or shine.  I was glad to
see you all had what appeared to be perfect weather this year.


Suffice it to say I was more than overwhelmed when I received via a text
the pic of all you sending me cheer with salute, *(my favorite the single
finger salutation).*


I was also sent an early morning classified pic of PA Air marshal Rob in
the prone position on a picnic table cutting Z?s, and our MD leader Will in
a contorted sleeping state whilst sitting at an adjacent table.  I?m more
than pleased to see that Rob has maintained his tradition of forgoing tent
for the rock hard surface of a table at Grimes, while many of us marvel at
Will?s ability to sleep most anywhere for a night and maintain a semblance
of function at sunrise.


I?m told that all were treated to two airshows with the Christian Eagle
using smoke during one performance.  My helmet?s off to the fellow who
dared to partake of the high G?s maneuvers  ride those sport planes can put
you through; there?d be a technicolor yawn if it were me as passenger.


I noticed a few new faces in the crowd pic and hope to meet you when I
return next year so that you can come face to face with the mystery airhead
for whom you sent good cheer.

   I'm so happy to be able to comm with you all!  Shucks, all the Airheads
   I've spoken with have been so kind and wonderful ... sincere thanks and
   good cheer to you all:)

   So persuasive has been the airheads hospitality in fact, that, well,
   Walt and RJ did it - they got back to me on my email of a couple weeks
   ago, let me know about the 4-Winds rally, and convinced me i should
   attend. So I decided, what the heck, its only 2800 miles away, why not
   make a weekend of it!

   So this week I'll be making my way from SAN to BWI to Glennville PA by
   various transpo, then finishing some maintenance on m '77R100 in
   Glennville, then driving it to G'burg Fri AM to meet up with the kind
   RJ (and others(s) ) there around 9ish, and riding with them to the
   rally (in/near New Bethlehem as i understand it, about 4 hrs).

   ...now...speaking of Bethlehem, although there was actually 'room at
   the inn' nearby, being perhaps a bit more frugal and social than the
   baby Jesus, I would like very much to camp at the fest with y'all
   instead of stay in a nearby lodging.  So I've figured everything out to
   make that happen, and I'll be able to pack/cargo-net everything I need
   for camping Fri and Sat evenings onto the '77 R100 I'll be riding there

   ... everything except some sort of tent to keep the bugs off me.  And
   Walt and  Chris are leaving the Glenville area just hours before I'll
   be able to arrive there (e.g. to give them my tent to take with them)
   ...so I wondered if i could ask the group a small favor - might anyone
   have an extra tent they could bring for me, which I might be able to
   use for Fri and Sat nights?  i dont care how small or yucky, as long as
   I can effectively use my roll of ductape to mend any cracks and keep
   the skeeters off me so i can sleep :)  Any help with this greatly
   appreciated, just let me know, by reply or, if you prefer by cell, my #
   is 760-583-8385.

A personal friend of mine is a professional auto and bike wrench, and did the following R90s work for me about 5-6 years ago:

NEW VALVES, SEATS, SPRINGS
NEW RINGS,
NEW PISTONS, by 1 - I have no real understanding of this, as you might guess.

New left switch assembly

Thermal dip stick

Heated grips

After-market, STURDY side stand

Clear title, no ownership or maintenance debts.

Runs well.

Custom two-person seat, VERY comfortable

A massive horn sound, per Oak Oakleshion (sp?) and my wife's surprise gift from him.

Re-painted gas tank, by a St. louis BMW shop's painter who went independent.  About 18 years ago.

Cowling repaired, painted, added a new windshield with upper extension.

Original after market saddle bags, with latches which from day one could not be trusted.  My solution was to bind each saddle bag with woven one-inch, red nylon bands latched at the ends with a set of snap-on clasps.

$4,900, cash only, per strong advice from my credit union

Sorry, no test rides, my insurance will not cover any theft or accidents.

If cash is received before rally's end, I could trailer it to any location within 100 miles of Todd's rally site.  Or, cash purchaser could take it and title directly from the rally site.

Mike sent me some more actual photos of his bike and it looks real good.  I
think this is a good buy for someone.well maintained and the paintwork looks
real good too.   The miles don't bother me in the least, because it has been
properly maintained all these years and it practically a one owner
motorbike.

40th Anniversary Celebration, R65LS, R80GS,

19-21 September 2019

 

Hello Attendees,

 

I'm in the process of having a "Long Distance Award" produced for this
event.  Honor system please, (GPS) no credit given for circling the Northern
hemisphere, Tierra del Fuego ,  Arctic Circle, Cabot Trail, then landing in
eastern Pennsylvania.

 

Now, on the other hand, if you do go that route..I WILL have a special award
for that feat.

 

Lodging Discounts are ending very, very soon, if you haven't already made
hotel reservations please do so immediately.  Plenty of room for campers
though and I will have a shower facility and of course plenty of portable
restrooms.  

 

Order placed for commemorative T-Shirts, Hats, Key Chains, Decals, Posters,
Coins, etc.  Also, since the T-Shirts for the 40th R100RS event sold out in
a little over an hour's time, I'm having another run of 50 Shirts remade, so
those will be available also.  If you are an extra large, say 3XL, and want
a shirt, please let me know very soon.  I think you will like the designs by
Hans A. Muth and my friend Hunter.  On-line sales will be available after
the rally, if there are any items left unsold.

Remember the Last Days of Summer Rally? I was beginning to think many had
forgotten given the lack-luster registration thus far...

In case anyone is wondering, and are not attending the 40th Anniversary
Celebration of the R65LS and R80GS, we ARE doing it again this year. Why
the conflicting dates you might ask?  Simply, I figured the Last Days of
Summer Rally should occur with regularity during the last days of summer.
So by all means, attend the special event Todd has put great effort into
organizing if you are so inclined. It should be a wonderful experience.
Rest assured, we will still be here next year...

But, if you can't stand the thought of missing another Last Days of Summer
Rally, then by all means join us.


   - Cost for the weekend including camping three nights and the meals is
   $45.00.

My sincere apologies for the scheduling conflict of these two events, this
was not my plan as  was hoping to attend the Last Days of Summer Rally
myself, but Hans emailed me some months ago stated that there was a problem,
his associate George "Schorsch" Martin, had with the dates I originally
scheduled and asked to push the event back one week and there lies the
conflict.

Whichever event you choose to attend, I'm hoping you will have an enjoyable
time. I will do my best to see you at next year's event. Thank you Will for
all your efforts.

I have a lift, basic mechanic tools and few airhead tools.

I purchased a new C4 Silver helmet in June.? Size is Large.? Overall this helmet is outstanding.?? Worn the helmet only 5 times, 4 short day rides and then 1 week plus recently.? One problem with the helmet for me is that it rides on top of my glasses.? Leads to headaches and blurred vision after on longer rides.? As much as I really like the helmet and it's features it just doesn't work with my glasses and contacts aren't an option for me.



The C4 has no marks, scratches, etc.? It has been sanitized after each use.? I paid just over $460 for it.? I'm asking $300 for it or a really solid offer.? Would like to see it go to a rider who can properly enjoy the helmet.
