It's later than usual for our annual Rolling Rally , but better late than
never.

Every year we talk about adding another day and since I haven't been on a
long ride this year I thought I'd try to do a thousand miles over the
course of four and a half days.

As many of you know, the RA rally is the weekend of July 20-21 in
Wellsboro, PA.

Right now I am thinking about heading out Wednesday afternoon towards
Micheaux State Forest just to set the mood and then putting in four days of
riding with a Sunday evening return.

I'd like to head either head north and west toward the Allegheny National
Forest for camping Thursday evening and then loop east acriss the top of PA
or southern mid-NY towards Wellsboro with a Saturday mid day arrival, and
Sunday departure for home...

OR perhaps head for the Catskills over the course of Thursday and Friday
and then swing back south and west to Wellsboro on Saturday. It will be a
trip that is primarily about riding with close to 300 mile days and with
camping innational forests or campgrounds like we normally do. If any of
you want to motel it... you can meet up with us in the mornings or
somewhere along the way..

In 1978, a French man named Thierry Sabine created one of the toughest and

necessary. It is a test not just of pilot skill but also vehicle
reliability. In 1981, only 3 years after the first edition, BMW snagged

The story of the G/S actually started in 1980. In a world where dirt-ish
bikes were usually displacing less than 500cc and weighing not more than 300
lbs, the R80 arrived in the market like a real rhino at 796 cc and 420 lb.
It was a revolution. Nobody really understood the purpose of the bike when
it was released but quickly critics and clients figured it out: the GS was
made to discover and explore. Equipped with a shaft drive, it was also
reliable. The engine was basicall y the same as the R80/7 from 1979 with
modifications to lower the weight of the bike: the flywheel, the clutch disc
and even the cylinders were not in cast iron anymore, but in aluminum. The
bike lost 17 lbs, had an engine of 50 hp and a top speed of 105 mph which
unheard of at the time for that kind of bike. When released in 1984, the
Paris Dakar version was the equivalent as the 1200 GS Adventure today with
equipment made for longer trips and off road riding: larger tank (8.4 gal),
a longer luggage rack, Michelin T61 off-road tires, and a fork brace. The
vast majority of Paris Dakar bikes are made thanks to kits as the original
1984 R80GS Paris Dakars were only made in small quantity (around 250) and

the Loctite 454 you had better have the positioning right because it 
firms up within 15-30 seconds and it's nearly dry by the 1 minute mark.

Larry.......be advised in the difference between these two adhesives.

Loctite 454 is a cyanoacrylate adhesive gel that eventually hardens to the point 
where it crystallizes and falls apart.

On the other hand, 3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive (yellow or black) firms to a 
very tough semi-solid does and lasts indefinitely.

I second what Tom said. The rally was nice, but Airhead Central made it

I'll second that, well done Rob, most of my time was spent between Airhead
Central, the vintage display and parts vendors.

Oh, by the way, The RA (or Tioga Fairgrounds) did not shut down the electric
and water at 5:00 am on Sunday, it was the storm that caused the whole
county to lose power.

Laura and I were the very last ones to leave the fairgrounds. I'll admit to
kicking as many tires as possible before leaving.  I had to chat with Jack
Wells one more time, he is a delight to talk with and thanked me for
spending time with him. It was me who was the most appreciative, believe me.


Well it was raining anyway, so we wanted to let the gear "Air" out after the
rained stopped.

Anybody else take notice of all the sidecar rigs!

Good location, very nice gathering. I think this event was very successful.

Yes, many thanks to Rob and Chris this past weekend.  I didn't make it to the rally until Saturday afternoon, but thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was nice to show up and enjoy the comforts of their labor. The love seats were much appreciated and I ended up sleeping on one of them to avoid the deluge Saturday evening. When I checked my tent in the morning it had taken on a fair amount of water! With no power Sunday morning the tables were quickly filled with all manner of camp stoves, french presses, and assorted coffee making equipment.  No one that wanted a cup of coffee and showed up was denied one... It didn't take long for the weather to clear and the ride home Sunday was fantastic.

Thanks again to everyone that put together and maintained Airhead Central.

It?s very likely that the $2 fee will stop the scammers who made the previous IBMWR Classifieds a wasteland.
This is a good thing.

Announcement: the IBMWR marketplace is back up and running!

The ibmwr.org web site has been completely rebuilt on Wordpress, and the
new marketplace lets you post photos. Unfortunately, there is now a $2.00
charge to advertise items for sale...which goes to pay for site hosting.
It's still a 100% volunteer BMW club and organization
