Thanks , Bill.  As usual, a font of knowledge.  I sadly report that my bike was purchased by a friend of Roger... a BMW board member.   This ends a 40 year period of my life...perhaps those which delivered the most enjoyment.

No, but it does block any chest vents or shoulder vents. My Aerostich's
armpit vents and Zhao's sleeve vents work fine.
