One can only imagine the design meeting...

"We have the finest handling Featherbed frame...and the most antiquated 
vibrating engine spoiling it...what is our plan???"

"Well...let's get rid of the excellent frame, and keep the bloody rough 
bugger of an engine."

Counter to any logic...but they made it work.
A lesson there somewhere...
