Hello all,

What say you? How about a ride Saturday to celebrate the 4th? I haven't got a specific route yet, but I'm thinking about leaving from Englishtown at 9am and heading north and west. (I'm trying to tempt Kaus!) I'd say I'm 90% sure about the time and start place. Does that sound ok for most people?

I'll email something more tomorrow, like a specific meeting place and more about a route and length, but I wanted to put it out there now while I was thinking about it. I read the newsletter and Don made me feel guilty that we haven't had a group ride in a bit now!

Hi everyone,

Sorry it took me so long to get this out. Some things came up today.

I'm attaching a PDF that should show the route. Basecamp says it's about
170mi and a little over 6 hours. For me at least, the routes usually take
less time than Garmin says. IDK.

The start and end points are the same, QuickCheck in Englishtown, 1 Wilson
Ave, Englishtown, NJ 07726. I'm thinking that we can meet there, fill up
your tanks, and also pick up some food for lunch later. I've got breaks
about every 1-1.5 hrs. The last leg is a little longer.

I found some parks that say they have restrooms. (I hope!) We should get to
Merrill Creek Reservoir Park around lunch time. I'm hoping it's a good
place to eat our lunches picnic style.

If you don't have quite that much time, you could probably break off
whenever you want. If it works out right, we'd get back to the QuickCheck
by around 3-4pm.

Kick stands up at 9am from the QuickCheck. I'll try to be there earlier,
but, to be honest, I'm not the most punctual person.

Johnathan, if you use "My Maps" in Google maps you can send the route in a KML file and you can see the actual route & roads in Google. mapes. .

If you send the route out of Basecamp drop down and choose "KML File" and save it to your desktop. Then open my maps and you can open and save- title the route and email the link.

For what it's worth, I just loaded the sections onto my GPS and they're all
shorter than what Basecamp said, timewise. Go figure.

I'm going riding Thursday and thought I'd throw it out to the group. I
don't have a specific route yet, only a direction. I'm going to head north
up into NY state to ride through Harriman State Park. (Some of the really
nice roads are closed, per the website, but it seems like they're not ALL
closed.) I might ride up Henry Hudson Drive along the Hudson River from
Fort Lee. Maybe take 9W up a bit then the Palisades Parkway to Harriman.

Probably head southwest-ish. Again, I'm not sure quite yet. There are lots
of nice roads in northwest NJ and above the border in NY.

I'll be doing highway in the beginning and probably the end of the ride
too, to have more time up there.

This will probably be a long-ish ride. Most of the day. I'd probably start
from around the Cheesequake rest area at 8:30a or 9a, trying to be back
near there by 4p or 4:30p. Again, not set in stone.

If people are interested, I can send something more concrete later
tomorrow, but you've got the outline. If no one's interested, no worries.
I'm going anyway.

only 79F, and it is usually cooler up north! Should be a really nice day to

Yanni, yup, tomorrow, Thursday. I have off and it's supposed to be nice, so
why not a weekday ride, right?

Let's try for 9am kickstands up from the Cheesequake Rest Area on the GSP.
We can meet in the parking lot just north of the gas station.

I think I'd like to stop for brunch at The 9W Market in Palisades. They
have outdoor seating and restrooms. I've ridden past it many times but
never stopped. If we get hungry later, we can figure out some other place
for a snack. Personally, I always have snack bars with me.

Anyone else? There sure are a lot of people on this list with motorcycles.
Just sayin.

No Bear Mountain today. The Harriman website said Perkins Drive is closed,
along with a couple other roads in the park. Maybe another time.

Great ride today.? Thank you... The routes were designed very well....? Never had ridden Henry Hudson Parkway or most of? those roads in NYS and Northern NJ.? My GPS recorded 266 miles in about 7 hours.? The weather was excellent... low of 74 and high of about 78.?

That will be my next bike, my buddy has one, 2017 and it?s a Rocketship. I know the newer version they worked out bugs, no more vibrations in the bars, lower revs at the highway speeds, LED lighting, keyless with keyless gas cap and more.

This article was posted today by the Skylands BMW Riders. Thank you Bob Spine.
It's? an excellent and extensive article from the Iron Butt Association (dated 2010) about riding in the heat.? The magic temp.? is 93 degrees.? Below that temperature? riding isn't a problem for most people... above 93 is a different ball game.? The article describes the issues with body temperature in heat.. and the last part discusses what you can do about it when riding.?
Now I know why Don E.? rides with his Aerostitch in the summer time... to block the wind to cut down evaporation (and to keep his body parts all-together in case he slides down the road).

I am riding to Allentown NJ to the Moth Coffee House.? I've seen it and read the reviews.. sounds good and looks unusual. It is on main street a short distance from Woody's restr where we usually go. It appears that a park (w benches) is located nearby,
It is basically a "vegie" place'? w bakery?. non-meat sandwiches/wraps and? soup.? Of course they have many types of coffee.

Yep, there?s a park maybe 3 blocks from Woodys (same side)   benches, small water stream, lake, parking.  Stop there often, and Gulf gas close by... but just off the main road,  down a side street.

I am not sure I can make it, but if the Moth's parking lot is full you can
just pull into the parking lot near the lake and walk over to the Moth.

I just noticed that a new version of garmin basecamp is now available? version 4.8.9 for MAC and 4.7.2 Windows

Also, Garmin systems were down this past week for several days.? I couldn't update my maps or register one of my GPSs.?HERE IS THEIR EXPLAINATION
"Garmin Ltd. was the victim of a cyber attack that encrypted some of our systems on July 23, 2020. As a result, many of our online services were interrupted including website functions, customer support, customer facing applications, and company communications. We immediately began to assess the nature of the attack and started remediation. We have no indication that any customer data, including payment information from Garmin Pay, was accessed, lost or stolen. Additionally, the functionality of Garmin products was not affected, other than the ability to access online services. Affected systems are being restored and we expect to return to normal operation over the next few days. As our affected systems are restored, we expect some delays as the backlog of information is being processed. We are grateful for our customers? patience and understanding during this incident and look forward to continuing to provide the exceptional customer service and support that has been our hallmark and tradition. "
