If you're sitting around moping that you can't attend the regular Moribundi Lunch (the social highlight of each month, for sure), then why not join me in a Zoom meeting from your home (or wherever you're "sheltering in place"). Install the zoom app on your smartphone OR go to zoom.us and install the zoom client on your laptop (assuming it has camera and microphone). You may want to create a free Zoom account, although I don't think this is necessary to join a meeting. But it does allow you to create your own meetings. At 12:30, open the zoom app or zoom client, click on "Join", and enter this magic number: 627 923 1844 You'll have to click a button that says "join meeting with audio" or similar, but eventually, you should see myself and anybody else who has joined the meeting. We can all chit chat for 40 minutes for free before zoom kicks us off (unless they don't -- if demand is low, they don't). PLEASE EMAIL the list if you intend to do this. That way I and others will know there's some interest. To prevent pandemonium, the person running the meeting (Ed?) would mute all the other microphones (he can do that as moderator) and then people can "raise their hand" (I think there's a button for that on the app) and request to speak. 3. re: security, as raised by Gary Renna. First, we aren't discussing national security, so if somebody were to eavesdrop, the most likely outcome would be that they are bored to death. Second, Zoom has instituted measures to prevent random idiots from "crashing" our meeting. This involves a tiny bit more work for the moderator, as he has to either (a) use a password to secure the meeting, or (b) admit people from the "waiting room". It would probably be prudent for Ed, Joe, Ben, and myself, at a minimum, to practice this before the actual meeting. The problem teachers were having was the default for the meetings used to be there was a way to scroll through a directory of all the meetings taking place, and if the meeting wasn't setup to require approval to join or a password - anyone could join the meeting. Dudley Jr.) Date: Tue, 7 Apr 2020 21:27:39 -0400 Subject: [NJSBMWR] zoom meeting instructions Message-ID: Here are some instructions on using the zoom program/app and how the meeting will be run. The meeting number will be emailed out tomorrow. IF YOU'RE USING A LAPTOP (smart phone users read this anyway): Go to zoom.us and download and install the zoom program for your computer. There are versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Create a free zoom account while you're there. A few minutes before the appointed meeting time (7:30 April 8), open the zoom program, login with your zoom credentials (assuming you created an account) and click on "Join". Enter the meeting number. You will be put into the "waiting room". If you move your mouse to the top right corner of the zoom window, you will see a control appear that says either "speaker view" or "gallery view". Speaker view shows you who's talking in a big window. Gallery view attempts to show everybody in the meeting. If there are many people in the meeting, then gallery view will have several pages. If you move your mouse to the bottom of the zoom window, a tool bar will pop up. There is a button to mute/un-mute your audio, turn your video on/off, share your screen (don't do this unless you have a reason to share your computer's screen with the meeting). There is also a button labeled "participants". Click on that and a window will open, showing all the participants. At the bottom of that window is a button labeled "raise hand". Click that, and the moderator will see that you wish to speak. Ed will call on you and un-mute your microphone. IF YOU'RE USING A SMARTPHONE: Go to the app store and download and install the Zoom app. Run it and sign in with your zoom credentials if you created a zoom account. A few minutes before meeting time, open the app, and click Join. Enter the meeting number (TBA). On a smartphone, swipe left and you get to "gallery view". Swipe right from "gallery view" and you will see "speaker view". Touch the screen and a menu will appear at the bottom. There are your mute/un-mute audio button, your video on/off button, and over on the right, a choice "More". Touch "More" and you will see a menu that includes "raise hand", which is how you get the moderator to allow you to speak. You may have to turn on your video, as the app seems to come up with video disabled. Just tap the screen, and tap video in the toolbar, to turn video on (or off). ------- more information for everybody: At the start of the meeting, the moderator, (probably president Ed) will admit people from the waiting room into the meeting. (This prevents bad people from annoying us, which is unfortunately a thing these days.) At the start of the meeting, Ed will mute everybody's microphone. He will then call on Jim, Joe, etc for their reports. When the meeting moves to "new business", Ed will ask if the rest of the membership has anything to contribute. Free Zoom meetings are supposed to be limited to 40 minutes, but my experience is that many times, Zoom extends the time, especially at night when demand for the service is low. -- Bill Dudley From deilenberger at gmail.com Tue Apr 7 23:39:18 2020 From: deilenberger at gmail.com (Don Eilenberger) Date: Tue, 7 Apr 2020 23:39:18 -0400 Subject: [NJSBMWR] Interesting review for your reading/viewing pleasure Message-ID: Whilst trapped in your monks cage.. https://www.cycleworld.com/story/motorcycle-reviews/2020-harley-davidson-livewire-vs-zero-motorcycles-srf-premium/ -- Don Eilenberger deilenberger at gmail.com From rtrendowski at verizon.net Wed Apr 8 08:01:56 2020 From: rtrendowski at verizon.net (rtrendowski at verizon.net) Date: Wed, 8 Apr 2020 12:01:56 +0000 (UTC) Subject: [NJSBMWR] Cycle News mag issue 14 References: <128141010.1656066.1586347316081.ref@mail.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <128141010.1656066.1586347316081@mail.yahoo.com> NJSBMWR FYI Roger T Subject: Cycle News Issue 14: 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro and Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Tested, Supercross Season Update, 1973 Trans Ama Dream Trip and more? | | | | | | | Get the latest issue of Cycle News. ? | | | View this email in your browser | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Welcome to Issue #14 Inside this week's Cycle News: Inside this week's issue you'll find two brand new bike tests with the all-new Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro taking the cover from the Moroccan launch. America's distillers, along with other alcohol industries like craft breweries, have stepped up. They have paused in making beverages and are making the alcohol-based sanitizers. ? When the Coronavirus first hit in the U.S., regulations controlled what a distillery can and can't produce and distilleries couldn't be helpful in the fight against the Coronavirus. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, which oversees the industry, waived parts of a federal law to allow distilleries to immediately produce hand sanitizer. ? While distillers knew how to make whiskey, vodka, gin and other spirits, that doesn't mean they knew how to make alcohol for hand sanitizer. The industry has come together to share information through webinars, online guides, and more so distilleries could modify their equipment to make hand sanitizers. ? Some distilleries have chosen to make sanitizing products and provide them free to first responders, critical facilities and businesses. Other elected to sell their sanitizing products to the public in order to keep their workers paid. ? I own a 1988 K75C with low miles (about 16k) which was until yesterday in really great shape. I installed a new fuel pump and injectors since the last owner had stored it for about 10 years with half a tank of fuel and the sending unit and fuel pump were gone. After completing the assembly and checking it for leaks, I took it for a ride, and it caught fire while riding. I was able to extinguish the fire but the front radiator shroud, under tank wiring and probably more were burned. I don't have any interest in repairing it and am hopeful that it will be of interest free to a member. It has a clear MA title, Clymers manual, all sales and service records, good tires, and BMW panniers in like-new shape boxed separately. I will keep the tool kit and battery. I'm not interested in parting it separately as I would like it gone and to a good recipient. I will post pictures later today or tomorrow. Feel free to call me at 508-246-4064. You know what I'm talking about. " I wanna be a fireman." "I wanna be an astronaut." "I wanna be Superman." Those wants can grow large in one's heart and mind, and have the potential to be seeds of heartbreak when they don't come true. Personally, I wanted to be Giacomo Agostini. But, for 2020 we have introduced a new event at end of September, in Lebanon TN.? MOTORAD FEST Roger T ================================================================All, As we discussed previously, I think?it is natural to say "the Rally has been cancelled." If you have been watching social and online comments this morning, that is certainly the most common words when referencing events and the rally.? I would encourage every one to get the?word?"Cancelled" out of your vocabulary. Saddle Up & Ride is absolutely NOT cancelled. It has been scheduled for June 24-27, 2021. That is not cancelled. Cancelled means it isn't going to happen. This Rally is happening and it is up to all of?us to be clear in our communication that it is happening! I realize it is a bit of wordsmithing, but we went through a lot of effort to craft a message that does not include "cancelled." The Rally is?a very important effort for us and we owe it to everyone who contributes to?the success of the?Rally to be absolutely positive?that Great Falls is happening. So far, the reaction to the new dates is positive. Let's make sure we do our part to keep it positive. I do not always go to rallies, but when I do, it will be in Great Falls.
