Dudley Jr.) Date: Sun, 1 Dec 2019 22:14:07 -0500 Subject: [NJSBMWR] NY Motorcycle Show - who's going? In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <75f5acdb-ab5e-54b3-c4dd-79993211da44@casano.com> At breakfast on Saturday, several of us were talking about going to the MC Show on Friday. I've just researched the choices for mass transit (since nobody wants to drive up there). Choice 1: Take the train from Long Branch to Penn Station, and then walk to lunch at a restaurant, and then to Javits, which show opens at 2PM. The train leaves at 10:54 AM, and the trip lasts about 1:45, so we'd arrive Penn Station about 12:35. It's 0.6 miles from Penn Station to Javits. Choice 2: Take the bus from Lakewood (or points north along Route 9) to the Port Authority building. As in choice 1, walk to lunch, and then to the show. The bus from the intersection of Rt 9 and Rt 526 to Port Authority leaves about 11:04 AM and takes 1:41, arriving at Port Authority about 12:45. It's 0.7 miles from Port Authority to Javits. If it's more convenient, those of you living north of Lakewood can pick up the same bus (the 139) at many places along Route 9. Who's interested in going, and if so, what is your preferred way to go? I vote for the bus, because to take the train, I have to drive for 45 minutes to get to the train station. Of course, we don't all have to go the same way; those living near Long Branch may choose the train, and we can take the bus with the "southern" people. I've already bought tickets for the show for Zhao and I, so we're going regardless. The TD Bank address is 1601 Madison Avenue, Lakewood Park in the supermarket lot that is 1 block north of the TD Bank, and on the other side of Rt 9, and walk to the TD Bank bus stop. It pays $150 for the day. If interested, read below, and visit the web page. President dud -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Butler NJ Gran Fondo June 7th Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2019 11:08:21 -0700 From: Peter Ballantine To: Bill Dudley Bill, The Gran Fondo website is granfondonationalseries.com ?where you can get all the information on what a Gran Fondo is and also click on the Highland Gran Fondo which will be taking place in Butler on June 7th and downloadable maps on the route for it. ?I will need six riders for it which they will be paid $150.00 for the day. ?The riders should show up at the event 1/2 hour before it starts. ?They will support the 60 and 100 mile loop. ?The main thing that a Ride Marshal does during a cycling event is keeping the cyclist safe and they do that by having their flasher on at all times and watching out for debris in front of the riders that can be removed and also cars that might be turning in front of them or coming out on the road in front of them. ?The Ride Marshals will also be able to partake of the breakfast before the event and the dinner after the event as well as stop at the feed zones for lunch. ?The below information is what a Fondo is about. ?I?m also sending you a Gran Fondo sheet for your riders to read for what they should be doing and looking out for as well as a rule sheet for the cyclist. ?If anyone has any questions please have them contact me via e-mail or phone call. * * *A Gran Fondo is a cycling challenge that takes bicycle racing to the next level. Part personal challenge,?part serious competition, the Gran Fondo National Series courses lead riders through country roads with challenging climbs and incredible scenery.? Courses are offered in lengths of ~30, ~60, and ~100 miles so participants can take part in a distance that matches their goals and ability.? Each rider is assigned an electronic timing-chip to keep track of their progress throughout the course and to allow riders to compete for best time through highlighted sections of the course. There is no start to finish time as in traditional racing formats, but rather only time sections count toward a rider's competition time.? This means you can take your time between race sections, stop at the aid stations, and regroup to enjoy the ride with your friend and teammates. At the finish a hot meal and beverage awaits you, as well as finisher medals for the gran route finishers. ?Whether riding for a cause, a personal goal, or for competition, the Gran Fondo National Series courses are some of the most beautiful courses in the North America.* * * *Thank You,* *Peter Ballantine* *801-450-7445* From dud at casano.com Tue Dec 10 00:00:03 2019 From: dud at casano.com (dud at casano.com) Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2019 00:00:03 -0500 Subject: [NJSBMWR] Event Reminder club meeting Message-ID: <201912100500.xBA503eU054164@dudley.casano.com> This is an automatic reminder of an upcoming NJSBMWR event. club meeting time: 6PM to eat, 7:30 meeting EST location: Our House Tavern, 420 Adelphia Road, Farmingdale date: December 11 2019 message sent: Tue Dec 10 00:00:03 EST 2019 From dud at casano.com Wed Dec 11 21:13:38 2019 From: dud at casano.com (William F. Last month at the club meeting I mentioned a new emergency service that is available through the MOA.? Here are the details.??????. https://emergencycontactdata.com/ap/BMWMOA/ap-fact-sheet-view.php???????.. ? The service (only $15 per year) provides emergency contact information/medical profile and contact data for YOU while you are riding (or at home or traveling otherwise). For example If you are hurt? during your travels, the service? provides almost immediate info about YOU to? EMTs and doctors.????...?? They say on their website: "Hospitals & Physicians Tell Us to Prepare for Our Emergency, Now?Emergency Contact Data is the world?s premier service for instantly presenting your medical records to First Responders, Doctors, Pharmacists and Caregivers ? within 5 seconds, 24/7, worldwide, without the Internet and even if you are unconscious. Emergency Contact Data provides immediate access to your critical, healthcare record when it matters most ? to save your life!"...??...??.. The MOA negotiated at 25% discount. I'm trying it so I don't have to carry? voluminous? medical information with me and not need to depend on an EMT/Doctor contacting someone at home who has? my? medical records and contact numbers. I hope your holidays are joyful and safe. On another note, who i interested is riding on January 1?? ?Our club members usually participate in two traditional rides. I'm good for one :but not both since they are at opposite ends of NJ. 1) Motts Creek Inn (where New Sweden BMW club and many other riders) meet to eat and spread the joy). Motts Creek is located north of Atlantic City.. The ride down and back can be on secondary roads. https://www.mottscreekinn.net/ ? ? ? ? ? ?? 2) Chilly Chili Karen Ann Quinlan hospice ride (Oldenburg NJ,near Sparta).? The ride is mostly on 4-laners. Usually 200-400 bikers attend;? I don't do the 31 mile event ride, just eat, drink coffee, warm up, talk,? and pay my $20 donation. Several Skylands BMW club members attend. http://www.bknjix.org/Chili%20Run%202020%20Flyer.pdf? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? https://www.karenannquinlanhospice.org/ Both rides are about 1 1/2 hours ... we usually arrive at about 10:30 -11am so we should leave our area about 9 am Who is interested??? I'll be arrive home from holiday vacation on the 31st and will decide then on which one I'm going to (based on weather and road conditions).?? In any case, I hope to see you at one of the events...? maybe even organize a group ride.. Email the group if you want to ride.
