1975 R90S Daytona for Sale, K100 w/ EML Sidecar



I am assisting the family of Joe Dille with the sale of these two
motorbikes.  For those that don?t know, Joe Dille passed earlier this year
and I am helping his family the best I can to see that these two bikes find
a good home.



Joe was an engineer for Brooks Instruments with many patents in his name.
He was extremely meticulous in all things mechanical.  He completely
rebuilt this Daytona R90S and it is one of the nicest examples you will
ever see.



The bike has 66K miles and all the maintenance is up to date and the bike
runs as strong as any R90S out there. Included with the sale are factory
saddlebags and tank bag.  His wife Patti has all the records, receipts and
maintenance performed.



I have plenty of photos of each bike I can forward to anyone interested.
Joe was wise enough to have Hans A. Muth sign the rear fender, just under
the saddle, when Hans was here for the 40th Anniversary celebration of the
R90S in 2014.



K100 with EML Sidecar, color matching factory blue



There is only 53K miles on this machine, again all maintenance is up to
date and it runs very strong and tracks true as you would expect from Joe.
This bike also comes with auxiliary fuel gauge and water temperature gauge,
sidecar cover and factory tank bag and saddlebags.



I worked on both of these bikes briefly, didn?t take much, mostly light
cleaning and polishing was all that was needed.  I ran both of them for a
10 mile loop with absolutely no issues.  Both bikes are ready for the road,
the best I can tell.  Plenty of tread on the tires, but I did not check the
date code, which can easily be checked.



There is no firm price on these machines, but Patti is interested in
offers.  Her son Joey inherited these motorbikes, he lives on the west
coast, he is not a rider, but he does has a very large amount of college
debt to settle, which is the main factor in these sales.   I can arrange
visits to look over these bikes most any time that it agrees with Patti.

UPDATE on the Sale of Joe Dille?s 75 R90S Daytona



It appears that Joe Dille purchased this bike late in the year 1989 and
started with the normal maintenance until a complete rebuild and
restoration in 1995.  At the time the bike had 45K miles, so it didn?t need
too much attention.   I have got most if not all of his service and
maintenance records in front of me.  Joe was fanatical when it came to
maintenance. The records show that the oil was changed every one to two
thousand miles and he used Mobil 1   15/50 wt religiously until the last
oil change when he switch to Valvoline 20v/50 air-cooled MC oil.  There is
66K miles on the bike currently and roughly 1K miles since the last oil
change.



Most of the maintenance was the typical fluid changes, tires, batteries,
spline lube, wheel bearing repacked, fork seals, etc.  I see he did replace
the clutch, throw out bearing, rebuilt the master brake cylinder, new brake
lines and shifter seal.  The mufflers are new as well as the clutch, choke
cables, oil pressure switch, pan gasket and rear wheel bearings.



As I stated earlier, the bike fires up quickly, settles into a steady idle
and pulls very strong down the road, in all five gears.  It comes complete
with the factory tool pouch and tray, original BMW shop towel, rare factory
locking wheel cable, remote charging outlet, BMW touring saddlebags, BMW
tank bag, several original BMW R90S owners? manuals as well as other
aftermarket service manuals.



The bike is bone stock original with no modifications other than the
signature of its designer, Hans A. Muth, which is clearly displayed on the
rear fender under the saddle.



This is without question a highly desirable and collectable vintage BMW.
Some extremely low mileage examples of Daytona R90Ss have sold north of
$25K in the past.  The market is up and down from year to year.  Patti is
not looking for that kind of an offer.  Myself and other vintage collectors
feel this bike is worth $15K, but I?m sure Patti will entertain all offers
and is willing to negotiate.



Patti would prefer that this bike be sold locally and it is listed as such
presently.  Should this bike be listed on EBay or BAT (Bring a Trailer)
with a national or international exposure, I think it would fare quite
well. This R90S is extremely presentable, maybe not quite Concours, but Joe
rode and enjoyed the bike as it was meant to be.  Let?s hope someone in the
region gives it a caring home

I showed the bike to an interested enthusiast on Sunday, an attractive offer was made after an inspection, test ride and a deal was made with Patti.  I [UTF-8?]won???t go into the particulars as [UTF-8?]that???s between the buyer and Patti, but [UTF-8?]I???m pretty sure both parties were pleased.

[UTF-8?]I???ve been riding, wrenching, restoring and collecting for 54 years.  I let a couple of motorbikes get away in years past, because I hesitated too long and [UTF-8?]didn???t pull the trigger when I should have.  [UTF-8?]I???ve learned my lesson many years ago.

I knew [UTF-8?]Joe???s R90S would not last long, because of the history, provenance and the great care that was taken over the years.  Joe was fanatical in restoring and maintaining this very desirable bike.  Unmolested examples such as this [UTF-8?]don???t appear very often.  The bike not only looked like new, it ran like a new model.

The K100/EML is still available at this moment, but there are interested parties and standing offers on the table.  I understand sidecars [UTF-8?]aren???t for everyone, but Horst Oberst realized that as we get older, we may want a sidecar in the stable.  For those who have children or grandchildren or puppies, they can be lots of [UTF-8?]fun???just ask me how I know.

You may have lost an opportunity to own [UTF-8?]Joe???s wonderful R90S, but [UTF-8?]I???ll tell you his K100/EML is presently available and a terrific rig.  The EMLs are one, if not thee premier sidecar rig to [UTF-8?]own???way over engineered. The bike comes complete with factory tools, factory owners/service manual, service records,  BMW saddlebags, BMW tank bag and sidecar cover.  The rig is BMW color matched in factory blue metallic.

If interested, I will be happy to make arrangements to view and inspect this rig with Patti Dille.

Hint:  Someone in western PA has made a standing offer.  I believe an offer of $9K will take the rig and Patti may even entertain other offers.  This rig is ready to roll, runs strong, tracks true and only has 53K miles on an engine that is good for 300K miles. For those who may have an interest, or if not, please pass this on to someone who may:

Joe purchased this bike new in 86, then at some point in time, bought and installed the factory color matching EML GT sidecar kit, which was designed and built specifically for the K100.  The EML sidecar is without a doubt, one of thee premier sidecars in the business.  They are over engineered in my opinion and they also  require many, many hours, days, weeks or more to [UTF-8?]install??? [UTF-8?]that???s if you know what you are doing.  Bob Henig of [UTF-8?]Bob???s BMW, said even his experienced mechanics may take two weeks or more to put one of these rigs together, if all goes well.

EML incorporates its own leading link, Earles type front suspension for proper braking and handling, use their own rear suspension, brake calibers and disc rotors, wheels, hydraulics, electrics, lighting, sidecar mounts, steering dampers, etc. etc.  [UTF-8?]Then???. the rig has to be dialed in just right.

You [UTF-8?]don???t have to do any of this grunt work, [UTF-8?]Joe???s superior mechanical aptitude figured it all out, carefully and patiently put it all together one piece at a time.  [UTF-8?]Oh???BTW, there are lots of pieces, but when [UTF-8?]it???s complete and done right, you have something special, a rig that runs strong, brakes exceptionally and tracks like [UTF-8?]it???s on rails.  [UTF-8?]I???m a vintage airhead enthusiast at heart, but I do also ride my K100/EML rig all year long; it has become my go to bike in the winter.  You [UTF-8?]don???t have to be quite so cautious on those days when slippery patches may appear out of nowhere.  [UTF-8?]Oh???did I tell you how much children and dogs love to ride in sidecars!

The K100, at this point in time, was an excellent candidate for the EML.  The K100 engine is rock solid in design and build [UTF-8?]quality???1000cc, four cylinders, fuel injected, water cooled, electronic ignition, a true workhorse. What more do you want.  May even last a half million miles or more if properly maintained and not abused.

Now speaking of maintenance, I [UTF-8?]don???t think you will find anyone as fanatical as Joe was with his maintenance. Below is the complete service history of his 86 K100/EML GT.  Take note:  Yes there were some long periods of time when the rig was sleeping comfortably in [UTF-8?]Joe???s garage undisturbed.  The rig may not have moved one inch in a particular year, but the oil and filter got changed [UTF-8?]anyway???.That was just Joe.

I hope someone appreciates the love and care put into this rig. Someone please give this sidecar a new home, It is in excellent condition, comes complete with factory BMW saddlebags, factory tank bag, factory tool kit, factory owners manual, service manual, aux. fuel and coolant temperature gauges, two custom sidecar covers for below and above the windscreen depending on use or [UTF-8?]storage???fresh engine oil and a full tank of fuel.  Well almost, [UTF-8?]I???ll admit I may have put a few miles on her in the past two weeks.  Check out how pampered and spoiled this girl was treated. Look at the mileage between oil & filter changes.

Here are the service records (in reverse order) for the 86 K100, EML GT

The bike now has 53,457 miles showing give or takes a few as I do some test riding.

30 September - 3 October 2021

Harleysville, PA

 

A  Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners club rally will be held in Harleysville,
Pennsylvania on the dates, 30 September thru 3 October 2021.
(Thursday-Sunday)

Please consider joining us for guest presentations, technical seminar and
scenic rides in the region's rolling hills, valleys, streams and lakes.
There is a motorbike museum on the site as well as a pavilion for
presentations, dining and entertainment, meals will be available on site.
There will be plenty of room for camping, including shower facility and
portable toilets. If you happen to need to do some emergency maintenance or
a tire change, that's not a problem as motorbike lifts and tools will be
available.

A fabulous private museum tour of "Dave's Garage" in nearby Skippack, PA.
will be available where you will be able to see one of the most incredible
collections of rare vintage motorcars and motorbikes in the country.

There will be a list of nearby hotels with discounted rates for all rally
attendees who are not camping.

Space is limited but you can bring a small trailer if necessary.  No RVs or
Motor homes on property, unless arrangements have been made in advance.

Rally fees are as follows:   $40.   Early bird Special is $35. , if you
register by August 15th. Day passes $20. A VBMWMO Rally hat is included to
all MEMBERS.

I have decided to sell my 83 R100RS.   I've owned it since 2014 and I am the
third owner.  It was originally purchased at Roman Cycle Shop in Youngstown
PA.  Mileage is 63,750.  I'm selling because I also have a GS and I just
have  not been riding it much.  It has had many improvements and necessary
mechanical upgrades and runs great.  Comes with the original panniers,
owners manual, and tool kit.  Currently on it is a Corbin Gun Fighter seat
and I picked up a very good condition original seat if I ever wanted to put
it back to stock.  I like the Corbin so I left it that way.  Handlebars are
from K bike.  Asking $4,500 or will entertain any reasonable offers.  It
could use painting, I opted to keep it original.  If interested shoot me an
email and I can prepare a list of upgrades (e.g., front fork rebuild with
emulator valves, Gazi rears shocks, LED lights, Kat Dash, etc.) and send
pics.  The heads were done by Randy Long via previous owner (I have receipt
for work done).

Jim, the new owner is from NY State; Joe was originally from White Plains, NY

Jim is a mechanical engineer; Joe was a mechanical engineer

Jim is a pilot; Joe was a pilot

Jim has airhead BMWs and sidecars; Joe had airhead BMWs and sidecars

 

I think it went to a good home?.all parties seemed very pleased.  There?s a good chance I will be delivering the bike to the new owner in Ithaca, NY.  Jim said if I ride the rig to Ithaca, he would fly me home to Harleysville.  I told him he had a deal and he doesn?t even have to land the plane, just provide me with a parachute?it?s been a few years, but it just like riding a bike.

 

Thanks to everyone involved, there were about 12 parties interested in the sidecar, If Jim decided not to buy, there was another party from MD, who was ready to ride up on Sunday, immediately after Jim left.  It was a solid rig, Joe, Patti, the kids and dogs enjoyed it very much and Patti has many fond memories.  I think the new owner will do the same for many years to come?.let?s hope so.

 

If you have the time, please read the attached article above regarding what went into the decision to build an EML rig and all that was involved.  Patti forwarded that to me last week and I really enjoyed reading the article. Hard to believe, but Joe states that he had over 200 hours building and attaching the sidecar to his new 86 K100. It?s a really good story, I hope you enjoy reading.

Hello All,

 

I'm Susan and new here.  I'm reviving a 1984 R65LS and will be buying new
tires soon.

My quandary is whether to buy bias or radials?  (Acknowledging that
tire/size availability is sketchy right now too) 

 

I've been a street rider on radials on newer bikes for over 20 years and
have no experience with bias as original equipment.

I understand that todays radials/performance tires were not available
options almost 40 years ago but that the bias tires also were considered
part of the suspension.

 

Please share with me if you will your preferences, experience, and
recommendations with/of bias and/or radials on your airheads.

Time to make room for my next project, so the last one must find a new
home. Got this bike with some issues that have been solved. Bike now starts
and runs fine. It even stops fairly well (for a /5). Looks like an old bike
(patina). It has some nice features: dual plugged, Dyna booster, Brown
sidestand, Toaster Tan brace, new seat foam, matching ##s. Have lots of
pictures, but will only post 1 here.
I'd like to have $2500, but am willing to compromise. Posting it in PA and

    2021 Battlefield Memorial Workers Rally
September 24-26 2021
 Once again we will be meeting up at Gettysburg National Military Park for
a weekend of Civil War history coupled with battlefield
preservation/restoration for the National Park Service.
      The rally location is at Artillery Ridge Campground at 610 Taneytown
Rd. Rally fee  includes two nights camping, hot showers, continuous coffee,
Saturday night catered meal, door prizes, and historical tours on the
battlefield. Rally fee is $55.
We will meet up Friday night meal at the Dobbin House Restaurant in town.

Morning all -

I just joined Airheads this week after buying my first Airhead - 1984
R100RT.

I want to make a sidecar rig out of it - essentially the same setup as
Snowbums RT rig.  I'm looking for the sidecar subframe that attaches to the
