Some of you know Mark Lipschitz; he was one of the organizers of the
MD Supertechs that we had in previous years.  Sadly, Mark died whilst
motorcycling in South Africa a couple of days ago.

Fellow Airheads,

It is with great sadness that I share news of the passing of Mark Lipschitz.

Mark died while motorcycling in South Africa some time within the last two
days.  I do not have many details yet, but do know that he was riding with
fellow airheads and another friend on one the annual trips he has taken the
past several years.

At the risk of being to brief, I do not think speculation of what happened
at this time makes any sense, not that any of it makes any sense to me
right now.

I loved Mark as many of you do.  He was a tremendous individual. His
dedication to the people he loved and cared about, and his capacity for
giving and sharing his life with others was rare and beautiful.

He lived his life with vigor. His ability to touch the lives of many and
bring them together in celebration of the common things we all love was one
of his greatest attributes.

I already miss him terribly.

When more information becomes available I will work to make certain it is
shared with everyone here

The effort doesn't have to amount to much;

1. open your garage to your new friends
2. buy some soda and ice and put it in a cooler (don't forget diet soda 
for us fat guys)
3. order some pizzas at lunch time and pass the hat to pay for them

4. have some tools and a place to work on an airhead BMW.

I (Klaus Huenecke) would and will do it, but it has to be towards the end of
the season = Fall. Reason being is that I need to get my shop set up the way
I want it to be with all my bikes inside, a couple or three work spaces with
lifts, lathe and others, a big illuminated BMW dealer sign hanging from the
ceiling etc., and that takes time. I wanted to have it ready in May to
celebrate my 70's birthday with like minded friends, but the amount of work
I have with my suspension business does not give me time to work on the shop
details.

I need help, part-time about 10 hr+ a week to service shock absorbers -
training will be provided, so that I can free myself up to do marketing,
sales and other administrative work. If I could find someone that would help
a lot. Maybe there is even someone out there who wants to go into the
"Suspension Business" and take it over. If you know or hear of someone for
either, let me know. The only criteria are - he must be interested in bikes
(all types) must like to work on them (installation of shocks and fork
springs etc) must like, and can not be allergic to cats (I have a shop-cat).

We haven't exactly had a stampede of people interested in hosting a Tech 
Day.

Klaus' offer is good, however since it's in the future, date 
unspecified, it also doesn't solve the immediate problem, of having a
*Spring* Tech Day.

Were I to host a Tech Day at my house in scenic scrub-pine infested 
Jackson, NJ in May, would anyone attend?

SPEAK UP if interested; optionally, specify the best day in May for you,
we'll see if we can come up with a consensus.

First weekend in May is out -- that's the Vintage Computer Fest, which I 
attend.

Third weekend is Morton's Spring Fling, in southern Virginia.  This is 
just FYI, since I don't think I'll be going to that, but others might.

We should have a discussion about a date, and put it in the calendar
as soon as possible.

September has at least two big events of note:
BMW RA Rally in Virginia  Sept 5-8
BMW 40th R80gs rally in PA Sept 20-22 <-- Airheads!!

October is clear, so that's probably a better month.

I like May 11.  As was pointed out by JP, May 12 is Mother's Day, so we 
should avoid that Sunday.
