Mike chaired the BMW National at Rhinebeck , Color in the Catskills and Airheads at the Aerodrome. I'll always remember Mike wearing his green German Police riding suit and sitting on one of his precious airheads or maybe the cover of the MOA News that showed Mike with his daughter driving his /2 sidecar rig across the Bear Mountain Bridge over the HudsonRiver. When you met Mike with his long hair, beard and tie dyed T shirt it was easy to imagine him as the event promoter he was. It was a little harder to imagine him as a Viet Nam fighter pilot. Airheads at the Aerodrome " Friedlefest " was always a great get together run by Mike and his wife Carla. Hopefully it will continue in his honor. He sent along this update this morning. Happy Easter to you all!? And I hope you all have power back! Best! Nik Maine A/M View this email in your browser Northeast Airheads Regional Events Tim Hille Hello Northeast Airheads - First of all - My family across the country and here at home is MA are all healthy and doing our part to keep others that way - Social Distancing and all that stuff. ?I hope you are all safe and healthy too. My personal?vigil for this situation is that I vow not to trim or shave my beard until we get the all clear on COVID-19. ?We shall see how long I can keep that up. ?At last as long as I continue to work from home and am not forced to do video conferences with the office. Remember the good old days when Airheads would ride their bikes to a common gathering with their local members and help each other learn and improve our machine performance. The Spring season is one of the most popular times for this type of activity. Well, Out of an /Abundance of Optimism/?I have not yet canceled any of our events that are still outside the dates of guidance from local authorities. ?But I have to admit the May Swap Meet is highly unlikely, well, let's just say it is canceled. Like many of you, I have been occupying myself with an ubancance of projects in my shop. ?As a member said recently in an email to me, "Thank God for the shop" - I have others I would thank as well including my wife who lately is even more happy to see me disappear into the shop for hours on end. See below some images of my shop projects to wet your appetite and inspire you. *How do we get prepared for the season that will come given the current **circumstances - */See below for plans of Socially Distant Tech Days/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Tech Day 2019 - Tucson AZ Beemer Works... ************************************* My shop time is spent on Airhead and other tasks - Zombie Apocalypse Getaway Rig - Rally Rig - I retooled my 1957 TeeNee Boat Trailer form a 6 boat Kaya rig to be the Airhead Hauler for my Wall-E the Westy Rally Rig. ?Planned premier event was YB Frosty Nutz, not sure that will happen, so other plans are in the works. Tank - A friend hooked me up with a Sport Tank for my /2, so I have been fitting it and doing proper reconditioning, while retaining the retina so that it does not make the rest of the bike look bad - keep the scratches and chips, but reserve what is there, and relining the tank with Red Kote - I will share results as progress continues. Tank ready for Red Kote - Thanks for the some guidance from Ande - @barrington_motor_works Spring Tune Up - My R90 was exhibiting hard starting behavior near the end of last season, so that is what Spring Tech day is for - Valves, Timing, and Carbs, the triple hit for each bike for the season. So, here is the big news - I will not let the current state of the world curb my enthusiasm for Airhead camaradarie - We can now take full advantage of the social distance of social media for the better. ?I will be hosting with the assistance of my son who is stuck at home with me for the balance of his senior year of college host a series of live Tech Day sessions. ?We will broadcast live over Instagram, so get your accounts setup, and follow me @airmarshalma to watch and interact live. I am proposing the following sessions based on work I am planning to do myself and likely have others who need to do them. Session 1 - Spring Tune R90/6 * Valve adjustment * Oil & Filter Change * Timing adjustment * Carb Tuning I will see how much I can do in each of a series of 1 hour sessions. Session 2 - Carb Tune on R69S This will be my first ever attempt at this, so it will be like a real learning together session and we can learn and make mistakes together, but hopefully more learning with few mistakes. ?We all learn best from our mistakes. Session 3 - Member request. ?Send me a suggestion and I will see if I can make it happen. ?I have the following bikes to work on as fodder for ideas - 1962 R69S 1974 R90/6 1976 R90/6 1979 R65 - The wife's bike and it does not get a lot of miles... 1988 R100 GS 1967 BSA Starfire 250 Single ****** I really hope you are all making plans to attend the */Black Bear Americana Music/* fest this fall, it is shopping up to be the Airhead event of the season. ?See the Web site and Airmail for more details. ?We will need this event more than ever this year, make your plans now.
