<p class="MsoNormal">It likely would on the newer clutch carrier model Tony, but the new ‘clutch carrier design’ didn’t show up until 1981 per my understanding. My bike has the same clutch and flywheel configuration as the /7 and older bike, so the spring
was a direct fit. Of course my bike has some odd bits on it that I think did not align with models produced for the US. My bike was sold in Wesidbaden for use in Europe. It came with a factory kickstarter, headlight switch, KM per hour and KM only odometer.
Also came with the older style air filter and aluminum side covers. Bean can points ignition too which was standard for 79-80 bikes. That’s part of why I like the bike so much.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I wonder if the could cause longer term issue, heavier pressure on light flywheel/clutch carrier found on the 1980-ish and newer bike. The 1977 would still have the heavy flywheel. Not likely to explode (although you are adventurous),
but cause excessive wear, just curious. <o:p></o:p></p>

which supposedly was a heavier spring for the power of that model. I’ve ridden it aggressively loaded for touring and two up and have been happy with it.<o:p></o:p></p>
