For those that don't know, Joe Dille passed earlier this year and I am helping his family the best I can to see that these two bikes find a good home. Joe was an engineer for Brooks Instruments with many patents in his name. He was extremely meticulous in all things mechanical. He completely rebuilt this Daytona R90S and it is one of the nicest examples you will ever see. The bike has 66K miles and all the maintenance is up to date and the bike runs as strong as any R90S out there. Included with the sale are factory saddlebags and tank bag. His wife Patti has all the records, receipts and maintenance performed. I have plenty of photos of each bike I can forward to anyone interested. Joe was wise enough to have Hans A. Muth sign the rear fender, just under the saddle, when Hans was here for the 40th Anniversary celebration of the R90S in 2014. K100 with EML Sidecar, color matching factory blue There is only 53K miles on this machine, again all maintenance is up to date and it runs very strong and tracks true as you would expect from Joe. This bike also comes with auxiliary fuel gauge and water temperature gauge, sidecar cover and factory tank bag and saddlebags. I worked on both of these bikes briefly, didn't take much, mostly light cleaning and polishing was all that was needed. I ran both of them for a 10 mile loop with absolutely no issues. Both bikes are ready for the road, the best I can tell. Plenty of tread on the tires, but I did not check the date code, which can easily be checked. There is no firm price on these machines, but Patti is interested in offers. Her son Joey inherited these motorbikes, he lives on the west coast, he is not a rider, but he does has a very large amount of college debt to settle, which is the main factor in these sales. I can arrange visits to look over these bikes most any time that it agrees with Patti. Thanks for your interest, please email or call anytime to make arrangements. At the time the bike had 45K miles, so it didn?t need too much attention. I have got most if not all of his service and maintenance records in front of me. Joe was fanatical when it came to maintenance. The records show that the oil was changed every one to two thousand miles and he used Mobil 1 15/50 wt religiously until the last oil change when he switch to Valvoline 20v/50 air-cooled MC oil. There is 66K miles on the bike currently and roughly 1K miles since the last oil change. Most of the maintenance was the typical fluid changes, tires, batteries, spline lube, wheel bearing repacked, fork seals, etc. I see he did replace the clutch, throw out bearing, rebuilt the master brake cylinder, new brake lines and shifter seal. The mufflers are new as well as the clutch, choke cables, oil pressure switch, pan gasket and rear wheel bearings. As I stated earlier, the bike fires up quickly, settles into a steady idle and pulls very strong down the road, in all five gears. It comes complete with the factory tool pouch and tray, original BMW shop towel, rare factory locking wheel cable, remote charging outlet, BMW touring saddlebags, BMW tank bag, several original BMW R90S owners? manuals as well as other aftermarket service manuals. The bike is bone stock original with no modifications other than the signature of its designer, Hans A. Muth, which is clearly displayed on the rear fender under the saddle. This is without question a highly desirable and collectable vintage BMW. Some extremely low mileage examples of Daytona R90Ss have sold north of $25K in the past. The market is up and down from year to year. Patti is not looking for that kind of an offer. Myself and other vintage collectors feel this bike is worth $15K, but I?m sure Patti will entertain all offers and is willing to negotiate. Patti would prefer that this bike be sold locally and it is listed as such presently. Should this bike be listed on EBay or BAT (Bring a Trailer) with a national or international exposure, I think it would fare quite well. This R90S is extremely presentable, maybe not quite Concours, but Joe rode and enjoyed the bike as it was meant to be. Let?s hope someone in the region gives it a caring home Feel free to email or call anytime, Todd Trumbore 610.761.4746 cid:ce37959a-3d4f-4b1a-9590-10f6b06f6d88 Hi Todd, I?d be interested in the R90. Now I?m concentrating on helping his wife Patti find a new home for Joe?s 86 K100/EML GT. For those who may have an interest, or if not, please pass this on to someone who may: Joe purchased this bike new in 86, then at some point in time, bought and installed the factory color matching EML GT sidecar kit, which was designed and built specifically for the K100. The EML sidecar is without a doubt, one of thee premier sidecars in the business. They are over engineered in my opinion and they also require many, many hours, days, weeks or more to install? that?s if you know what you are doing. Bob Henig of Bob?s BMW, said even his experienced mechanics may take two weeks or more to put one of these rigs together, if all goes well. EML incorporates its own leading link, Earles type front suspension for proper braking and handling, use their own rear suspension, brake calibers and disc rotors, wheels, hydraulics, electrics, lighting, sidecar mounts, steering dampers, etc. etc. Then?. the rig has to be dialed in just right. You don?t have to do any of this grunt work, Joe?s superior mechanical aptitude figured it all out, carefully and patiently put it all together one piece at a time. Oh?BTW, there are lots of pieces, but when it?s complete and done right, you have something special, a rig that runs strong, brakes exceptionally and tracks like it?s on rails. I?m a vintage airhead enthusiast at heart, but I do also ride my K100/EML rig all year long; it has become my go to bike in the winter. You don?t have to be quite so cautious on those days when slippery patches may appear out of nowhere. Oh?did I tell you how much children and dogs love to ride in sidecars! The K100, at this point in time, was an excellent candidate for the EML. The K100 engine is rock solid in design and build quality?1000cc, four cylinders, fuel injected, water cooled, electronic ignition, a true workhorse. What more do you want. May even last a half million miles or more if properly maintained and not abused. Now speaking of maintenance, I don?t think you will find anyone as fanatical as Joe was with his maintenance. Below is the complete service history of his 86 K100/EML GT. Take note: Yes there were some long periods of time when the rig was sleeping comfortably in Joe?s garage undisturbed. The rig may not have moved one inch in a particular year, but the oil and filter got changed anyway?.That was just Joe. I hope someone appreciates the love and care put into this rig. Someone please give this sidecar a new home, It is in excellent condition, comes complete with factory BMW saddlebags, factory tank bag, factory tool kit, factory owners manual, service manual, aux. fuel and coolant temperature gauges, two custom sidecar covers for below and above the windscreen depending on use or storage?fresh engine oil and a full tank of fuel. Well almost, I?ll admit I may have put a few miles on her in the past two weeks. Check out how pampered and spoiled this girl was treated. Look at the mileage between oil & filter changes. He is a legend in the vintage racing world, has been racing for almost 50 years, is the only American to win the Isle of Mann TT, but much more importantly he is also a warm, down to earth and very humble person who has a wonderful story to tell, especially for those of us who have a similar passion. This Spring I organized, laid out and led a memorial ride for the Perkiomen Chapter of the AMCA; Dave Roper and fellow vintage racer Dick Miles followed directly behind me with a group of vintage riders. I could not have been more honored. They really enjoyed the ride and Dave invited me to join them for dinner after the ride. What interesting and fascinating conversations were exchanged over dinner, a moment I?ll never soon forget. Daniel Lovering spent four or five years trying to raise the funds to produce a documentary film regarding the life of Dave Roper. Several years ago I was more than happy to make a contribution towards the production of this documentary. Just recently Jack Povilaitis and Daniel Lovering ask me if I was interested in hosting a private screening of the documentary ?Motorcycle Man?. I was sent a link and passcode to view the entire film privately. What did I think?I just finished viewing the film four times, back to back. That should tell you how much I enjoyed it. Don?t get me wrong, it is not ?The World?s Fastest Indian?, but it doesn?t have a tiny fraction of that budget either. I?ll know more details of what?s involved and expected when they contact me early next week, but I think this may be a great opportunity or an excuse to invite club members together for a gathering, or to view the film during our Fall VBMWMO rally. There are vintage BMW racers in the film, but the story is much broader than just one marque. Dave has raced a multitude of brands of motorbikes. He happened to be riding a 59 Horex Resident 350 single, the day of the memorial ride. The film is about the man himself. Please read the presentation below and click on the links for the trailer and more information. I?d be interested in your thoughts. Todd Trumbore Daniel Lovering Founder & Creative Director Bagamor Media LLC 1300 Soldiers Field Rd., Suite 4 Boston, MA 02135 412-953-2794 | bagamormedia.com Hello Todd, My name is Jack Povilaitis, and I am a production assistant with Bagamor Media. I am reaching out to you to see if The Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners Club would be interested in hosting a virtual screening of our short documentary Motorcycle Man , which is about veteran motorcycle racer Dave Roper, who has been racing every year since 1972. Dave was the first American to win the UK's Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race and has become a folk hero of the sport, not only because of his accomplishments on the racetrack but because of his philosophical outlook on life. Dave's relentless passion for racing and for the bikes themselves is a shining example of the positive impact motorcycles can have on someone throughout their life. You can watch the trailer and read more about the film here . Motorcycle Man has screened at 11 film festivals internationally over the past year and won four awards. We're now starting to distribute it independently by partnering with organizations for private online screenings and discussions. Hosting a screening could be a great way for you and your members to connect. We can add logos and display ads to the screening page so that sponsors could be involved. If you are interested, I'd be happy to share a private link to the film so you can watch it and decide if this is something you would like to pursue. Then perhaps we could schedule a Zoom call with director Daniel Lovering to discuss it further. I've owned it since 2014 and I am the third owner. It was originally purchased at Roman Cycle Shop in Youngstown PA. Mileage is 63,750. I'm selling because I also have a GS and I just have not been riding it much. It has had many improvements and necessary mechanical upgrades and runs great. Comes with the original panniers, owners manual, and tool kit. Currently on it is a Corbin Gun Fighter seat and I picked up a very good condition original seat if I ever wanted to put it back to stock. I like the Corbin so I left it that way. Handlebars are from K bike. Asking $4,500 or will entertain any reasonable offers. It could use painting, I opted to keep it original. If interested shoot me an email and I can prepare a list of upgrades (e.g., front fork rebuild with emulator valves, Gazi rears shocks, LED lights, Kat Dash, etc.) and send pics. The heads were done by Randy Long via previous owner (I have receipt for work done). There?s a good chance I will be delivering the bike to the new owner in Ithaca, NY. Jim said if I ride the rig to Ithaca, he would fly me home to Harleysville. I told him he had a deal and he doesn?t even have to land the plane, just provide me with a parachute?it?s been a few years, but it just like riding a bike. Thanks to everyone involved, there were about 12 parties interested in the sidecar, If Jim decided not to buy, there was another party from MD, who was ready to ride up on Sunday, immediately after Jim left. It was a solid rig, Joe, Patti, the kids and dogs enjoyed it very much and Patti has many fond memories. I think the new owner will do the same for many years to come?.let?s hope so. If you have the time, please read the attached article above regarding what went into the decision to build an EML rig and all that was involved. Patti forwarded that to me last week and I really enjoyed reading the article. Hard to believe, but Joe states that he had over 200 hours building and attaching the sidecar to his new 86 K100. It?s a really good story, I hope you enjoy reading. Todd P.S. In my humble (!) opinion, the R80RT is the ONLY good motorcycle other than the R80G/S that BMW made between 1981 and 1985. It had plenty of power to push the fairing, offered remarkable weather and cold protection, had good luggage, was good handling and easy to maintain. They had valve seat issues but there are a dozen shops in the USA that are able to fix that. If I was not in the process of trimming my own stable, I would seriously consider that bike for my local 2WT bike. The price is very reasonable. Read the "features" list on the Word Document. A careful read indicates that the bike has had the needed attention that the brakes are probably still good, and the engines healthy. Nothing dangerous, but a little disconcerting. Talked to Oak Okleshen about it years ago, and he said he had experienced that same thing on the model, and thought the Windjammer and Luftmeister fairings, aftermarket mounted on earlier models, were much more stable. I always attributed it to the very same qualities that make the fairing so protective; a bubble of negative pressure in the cockpit....It is a wonderful bike, fully faired or not; the engine "breathes" very well,? it's smooth shifting and quick, and has plenty of power unless you might be pulling a trailer. I believe many of the problems and idiosyncrasies of earlier Airhead models were fairly addressed and that the R80RT may be near the pinnacle of Airhead engineering. My main complaints would be that the engineers overdid the wiring redesign in the 1986 as compared to 1984, and that doggone tiny battery which, when sitting for just a month or so, can be discharged by the dashboard clock!Otherwise, a great bike!Bob Trumbule?ABC # 9280 Sent from the all new AOL app for Android On Tue, Jun 15, 2021 at 1:26 PM, Tom Cutter wrote: I'll disagree with both of you. Compared to a naked bike, I just don't care for the weight of the RT fairing and how it the steering feels. For touring or not, I just prefer to not be behind a fairing. I've rarely even had a small windshield on my bikes for the last twenty years. Personal preference... That said, I am not a 1000 mile guy either, and have only rarely ridden more than 500 miles per day. I am sure the fairing would make a big difference in the amount of fatigue... When riding back from Pocomoke State Park earlier this spring with a 5AM to get to work before 8AM in weather hovering in the low thirties, a fairing would have been a nice thing to have... I agree about the luggage. I've had a set of the early 80s full size BMW luggage for 20 years. It has a lot of carrying capacity. Someone should buy the bike. This is the first time I ever attempted to start the bike, and I am not getting oil from the sump to the cylinder heads, and only a residual amount to the oil sensor (oil pressure light stays on). *Background:* As part of this three-year (part time) project, I replaced all seals including the fuel pump's o-ring and cover, the woodruff key, and visually inspected (no measurements) the fuel pump. I also replaced the pickup gasket. *What I've done since the issue, not necessarily in this order:* 1. Read thru this thread: https://advrider.com/f/threads/airhead-oil-priming-problem-ha.746898/. The *Bill Harris, Dec 5, 2011 *entry is the best summary on the page. 2. Studied Snowbum's diagram and notes: https://bmwmotorcycletech.info/oilsketch.htm 3. Tested the oil sensor switch. 4. Filled the oil filter cavity with oil to prime it (laid the bike on its side to fill--learned this trick from Tom Cutter). 5. Hand pumped (as best I could) oil into the oil sensor hole to prime it. 6. Visually checked the pickup, bolts, and gasket 7. Blew air (with an air compressor) into the pickup and felt air coming out of the right cylinder. 8. Blew air into the oil sensor hole. 9. Blew air into oil filter cavity holes. *Outcomes after turning over the engine (spark plugs out; green coil wire off) for 90 seconds at a time:* 1. I got a tiny bit of oil into the left head (right side of the left head) at one point of the process. 2. Oil is coming into the oil filter cavity. 3. There is residual oil in the oil sensor hole (seeps out when sensor is removed), but it doesn't flow out when turning over. *AFAIK this is what is left to check:* 1. Oil pump - Visually inspect again and take measurements this time (remove flywheel, etc.) 2. Oil pressure relief valve - Make sure it's not stuck open (remove timing cover) 3. Ensure front main bearing cap oil passage hole lines up with engine block hole - Not sure if I can do this visually without removing the main bearing or cap (remove timing cover) 4. Something clogged in the system - I don't know how to check this other than blowing air through it. *Questions:* 1. Can I narrow it down to one area before disassembling the rear and/or front end? 2. Is there any way to test the system after disassembling besides a visual inspection and measurements? 3. I can tow the bike to Chris' tech day if anyone thinks it would help to see it in person. Does anyone think it would be helpful to bring it? Thank you! Craig -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
