As we know had a heart issue before the holidays and had a pacemaker installed [UTF-8?]??? This is all I know at the moment. I have known Joe for 30 years, as he got me into BMW motorcycles. I am rebuilding a 1981 R100RS- down to frame paint. I wasn?t planning on doing extensive engine work, but the guru from afar that I have been consulting with has convinced me to do some preventative maintenance. I pulled the transmission to do the spline lube and its a mess in there. Oil and grime. I now need to pull the clutch/flywheel to get to the oil pump. I?ll be doing the seals as well. Which leads me to this - tools. I'm not against buying some of them, but they might be offered on loan from members here. Other tools I can potentially make, or 3d print, as that?s part of my profession. The main seal disc with the 5 holes is an example of that. I?ll need the flywheel bar, clutch removal tools, clutch centering tool, and something to stop the crank from the rotor end at the front. Myself, I have a bunch of the Cycleworks tools and maybe some other tools that are really seldom-used unless one has multiple airheads. Like my timing-chain tools. I used them only once myself, but a lot of other times with other guys' bikes. I can make a list of what I have available, but I was thinking it might be useful for other Airheads if we had some kind of repository, which could be looked up by Airheads who might need a special tool for a project. Let me know if anybody thinks this would be a good idea or even if it could be implemented at all, since we just have state-specific email lists as opposed to web sites. Maybe on the national Airheads site there could be a database or online searchable list of tools by state? Anyway, just thinking out loud. Stay safe and positive (the good kind of positive that is!). Nice to see you doing your own work. Hopefully you have a small $30 Harbor Freight parts washer that will be of great help. Suggest you use mineral sprits....aka paint thinner (95%) and old used oil (5%) as your parts washer fluid. Cheap and very kind to painted parts and other items vs $20--$40/gallon specialized fluids. Btw........you don't need a flywheel bar to secure the flywheel......a simple 12mm--17mm box & open end wrench will do nicely to lock the flywheel when removing & installing new bolts. ?Nor do yo need anything special to keep the front of the crank in place. Properly sized dense fold of newspaper wrapped in tape between the front cover and alternator bolt works well.? Lots of hands-on experience in MD. Airheads so you are in good hands. A minor issue with the prospect of passing around special tools would be their proper identification. Tools of all sorts are routinely referred to by different names by many people. If so, to include this number as data on the spreadsheet might be helpful. In other cases, we often craft our own shop made special tool. I got your email address off of your BMW club website. I am looking to buy a BMW cycle from 1973-1983. Like R60,75,90 slash 5/6. Must have turn signals and electric start. I thought with your cycle club you might know someone or dealer that I can call to find 1 of these classic cycles. I am looking for a original not modified, clean no rust, show quality cycle under 20,000 original miles. Call, text or email me back. My cell is 717-991-3143. I am looking to buy ASAP. ------- End of Forwarded Message ------- Bill Dudley -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I wrote this preamble, but it seems some mail readers won't show my plain text preamble, only Ron's HTML text. So I am sending this message again, because I don't feel really confident that Ron's message is legit. Here is the preamble I sent before: Ron in PA would like to buy an airhead. He doesn't see to be particular about the model. The language in the letter is odd though, so I'm not 100% sure this is a legit request, so be alert. I definately wouldn't accept a "cashiers" check.
