clutch woes

Will,

I wonder if the could cause longer term issue, heavier pressure on light flywheel/clutch carrier found on the 1980-ish and newer bike. The 1977 would still have the heavy flywheel. Not likely to explode (although you are adventurous), but cause excessive wear, just curious.

Southland clutch rebuilt my clutch and it has been working well since I put it in. I replaced the diaphragm spring. My bike is a 1980- last year for the heavy flywheel assembly. I ordered the diaphragm part number from the 1977 R100RS which supposedly was a heavier spring for the power of that model. I’ve ridden it aggressively loaded for touring and two up and have been happy with it.

Thanks Chris!

I've got a situation very similar to Porter's with a rough R65 project that recently came my way.

Southland Clutch will charge you approximately $200 plus shipping. They remove the old clutch plate material and replace it then face it so match perfectly with the clutch plate and housing carrier. They do not do anything with the Diaphragm Spring. They will recommend replacing it if there is any doubt about its suitability.

Cheers Chris

How are their prices compared to buying new

haha I don't know. they advertise in abc, many have made compliments about them. it's NOT their first rodeo !
maybe some don't get an abc member magazine .... too bad. support your bike club

cheaper than any bmw dealer distributor.
the cheapest thing on a bmw is the owner. going cheap, again and again and again on the same component is dumb imho
just fix your bike right the first time and don't sweat the small stuff
