Just to let you guys know where this 5 yr rule came from.......right out of thin
air from the Ducati Owners Club of Canada back in the 90's when they were trying
to get a rock bottom price for liability insurance for their track days.

Helmet companies loved it. Helmet sales went through the roof.

Cynical? Only as a last resort these days........which seems to be everyday in
these times where every sales manager wants his 30% annual sales bonus.

I always buy top of the line helmets.......Arai, Shoei and Schuberth. I've
crashed 2 yr helmets and 10 yr helmets. Can't tell or see the diff.

This said my helmets never sit in the sun or outside when they are not on my
head. They get washed, cleaned and maintained inside and out. Seems to keep
them in great condition and the fit stays the same.......snug.

This riding season marks the 10th for my beloved Olympia Bonneville suit. This
jacket/pants combination could be among my favorite and most comfortable
garments. However, in the time that I have owned them,

I have also retired an Arai and a Shoei helmet. Is there anyone out there
with any experience with Fabrics ?I am curious to know if the factors that have
us retiring helmets (sweat ? UV exposure ? ) are cause to "recycle" our
clothing ?In the same vein, if the outer garment may still be good, is there an
interval to replace the "CE" pads in the shoulders, knees, elbows, etc ?

Eager to hear some feedback !
 Best regards,Alan
