[MDairheads] Cold Weather Starting ?

Hedz -
Had a SPECTACULAR ride with Bob Henig on Black Friday, but struggled with a cold engine block and getting up to operating temperature.(once I got there, all 600 cc's absolutely purred !)
Does anyone have any tricks (short of a heated garage)?
I remember Russian Front stories of literally lighting fires under the R12's and R75's, but they were dodging Soviet bullets and not trying to preserve a 48 year old heirloom.
Curious to hear ideas.
