Allen,

I’ve been meaning to follow up on your query about what do people do about their body armor as time passes. Last fall I ran an inventory of the armor in various jackets I’ve had for a number of years. I was very surprised to find a number of pieces quite degraded. A few to the point that I extracted them from the jacket or pants in pieces. Must have been very low quality. Worth checking. And the reason I originally replied buy a new jacket and pants. Only partly flippant.

Also I was reading recently some advertising for someone’s jacket and they were touting the benefits of their zipper system where you could leave the front unzipped for extra cooling. Problem with that is I have noticed that if you crash with the jacket not fastened at the neck it may tend to peel off your shoulders upon contact with the ground leaving your upper body exposed to at a minimum some road rash. Well, no one ever said it was a safe sport.
