I ate lunch and dinner at my own table rather then sitting in the Hospital chair. So that is good. The Docs has another look at my knee and decided that they wanted to cut into that as well to fix the patella tendon. Truth be told the commando back fired the day I bought it and did the damage there but WTH I still have a few weeks on my butt may as well let that get fixed and heal at the same time. The knee surgery was a piece of cake compared to the foot. I should be able to stand on it around the 15th or so .. All along the recovery though I have been collecting bits for the commando so I will have plenty to do once I can actually stand on my own.: a.. Gearbox rebuild to freshen that up and replace the lay shaft bearing to the upgraded one b.. Head steady to replace the isolastics rubber mounts to the frame up top c.. I also bit the bullet and bought a set of the Cosentino fork cartridges to help me dial in my front end for compression / Rebound dampening Perhaps it would be fun to have a tech day here to get plenty of eyes and hands on the projects to learn and teach? When it comes to these Nortons I am still the new guy.. Just thinking out loud here .. By and large the recovery is on schedule I remain amazed at how much muscle tone I have lost in only the ensuing for five weeks. It looks like I?ve been sitting in that chair for years. Just taking a shower requires a two hour nap. I?m sure my stamina will return once I can actually get back to some regular activity but we?re still three or four weeks away from that. Slowly but surely I am replacing the damaged gear from the crash as well as investigating the replacement of the nail totaled GS. Time will tell how that all works out. I?ll do my best to keep everybody in the loop. Surgery on the foot and ankle happens on Wednesday evaluation of the damage to the knee happens on Tuesday no idea what any of this means in the long run. The doctor seem to think I should get 85 to 95% mobility back in the ankle. Time will tell. I wish like hell I could blame somebody else for this but ultimately to be honest I could have been more careful. At this point when the surgery is over My next concernI is to somehow to exercise these bikes because none of them are winterized and all of them are just sitting with that shit ethanol gas in them, And I don?t want my first motorcycle related work to have to be rebuild and ultrasonic clean a bunch of carburetors. I also have still been thinking about how to improve the front end suspension of the 850. The stock suspension components are all new and freshly rebuilt and while they seem to operate perfectly I cannot get over that knocking sound on full extension. I?ve heard a rumor of cartridges that could be installed As a replacement for the stock rebound dampening set up at the road holder?s Offer. Anybody have any luck with Front suspension cartridges or have any recommendations? my understanding is the aftermarket cartridges offer both rebound and compression dampening which can only help. As things sit now all I can do is dream about wrenching and riding updating the iso elastics on the front to the modern variant so that I can adjust them without spacers and rebuilding the gearbox to update that faulty lay shaft bearing. As things sit now my biggest struggle it?s getting to the bathroom before the pain overbruns me. It?s an interesting race See you guys on the other side I?ll be back. Having got to the point where life was starting to return to normal it looks like we are facing an uncertain wildfire season and we hope the destruction of the small village of Lytton is the last serious event of the summer. What I can say is that resources are being readied to contain the threat including the military and I believe the situation is similar in WA, OR, ID. Given that the Rally is now in September we hope the situation is stable well before that. By now I hope you will have seen that we have opened bookings to Canadians for Lumby and over the weekend we have our first bookings. We of course hope that this is going to be a truly international rally and we are monitoring the situation on the border reopening for non essential travel. What does seem important is that all border crossings will be dependent upon full vaccination ? there will be more details shortly and we are expecting a major announcement no later than the 21st of the month. Until then please think about coming to Lumby. Details are on the www.nortonrally.com website and for those who do not have the time to drive/ride be aware of the motorcycle rental options available. I called the Tohickon Tavern today and was told our group would be welcome and they'd save us a bunch of indoor seating if we liked. I'd propose meeting there when they open at 11. It's a change from Orlando's, easier to have a quick meeting if we have our own spot and (I'd hope) a convenient location for members. The other option would be Orlando's. The upside to Orlando's would be we could meet earlier, say 10 to avoid potential heat and we could meet outdoors. How about we do this: let's plan on Tohickon Tavern at 11 unless there's a large outcry for Orlando's in the next 2 days. We'll make a decision by Friday and I'll send out another email by Friday evening as to the location and time. As best I can tell, there's not a lot of club business although we have a bit of activity planning to do. I believe Dan "First Place" Sellers will be sending out a summary of the club's activities and presence at the Triumph National Rally in Oley last month. In short, a good time was had by all. Many thanks again to DVNR member Al Hartman who runs the event for hooking the DVNR up with a prime spot under the atrium to display our Nortons and try to sell some unwanted parts. The prom queen of the event turned out to be DVNR member Ryan Weisel's Triumph T100. A 1956 model if I remember correctly. (?) Perhaps Ryan or First Place Sellers will chime in with a few details.
