We have been negotiating this event for several monthsuntil the Royers were able to accommodate our third Sunday meeting date. Icounted 25 members present, 5 of whom actually rode on 2 wheels (one on aNorton) The location was Oley PA and the temperature was 45 degrees with gustywind. There was plenty of parking for the cage drivers who were smiling aftertheir morning cold ?ride? to the meeting.?The visit was truly worth the wait. Jonna had mentioned tome that about 50 of Steve?s most prized motorcycles and a lot of memorabiliahad been sold in preparation for their move to Florida. I was hoping for the best when weentered the building. What a surprise when we walked in and saw the vast collection. It was a very large building and there were motorcycles of all makes and modelseverywhere. There was enough eye candy there to hold our attention for severalhours. Jonna had gone for food and beverage prior to our arrival and fixed asitting area for some of us to sit and eat. The food from nearby Bella ItaliaOley Restaurant was a perfect fit for a shop visit. Hot coffee hit the spot forsome and I don?t need to mention the most popular beverages brought to themeeting by Dave Glover.?A very brief meeting was held to announce the Novembermeeting details and the start time for the Christmas Party hosted by Frank Mohron Saturday December 15 starting at 5 PM. Meeting was adjourned.?A short tech session studying Pat Daloisio?s Combat engine casesfollowed. Pat was concerned about the bearings in his Combat and wanted adviceon changing them to ?super blend? bearings. Pat also had three precious camsthat he wanted to discuss but most observers deemed them to be junk. Pat statedthat he will remove the bearings in the near future and post the bearingnumbers for review. Rich Casey pointed out that the original bearings were acause of problem for many Combat engines (blown up engine) and many of the engineshad their bearings replaced by dealers shortly after their sale. It wasinteresting to see the additional strengthening bosses for the main bearings onthe Combat engine and also the passage for the return oil. The recommended fixwas discussed. We will wait for bearing news from Pat.?For an oversight of what you missed on Sunday, plug thisinto you browser and have a look. https://www.oldbikesandstuff.com? Seeing this in person was even more inspiring.?Thank you Steve and Jonna for your hospitality and time toentertain so many of our members. Jonna, your selection of food vendors wasterrific and your efforts were greatly appreciated. Good luck and best wisheson your move.?Dan SellersDVNR Treasurer From dsellerspa at verizon.net Wed Oct 24 08:15:16 2018 From: dsellerspa at verizon.net (Daniel Sellers) Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2018 12:15:16 +0000 (UTC) Subject: [dvnr] Resend October Meeting Notes References: <1511660802.76111.1540383316987.ref@mail.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <1511660802.76111.1540383316987@mail.yahoo.com> DVNR Members, I don't know how or why the paragraph formatting was stripped from my email last evening but the document is almost unreadable without the breaks. Oil from the tach drive Oil from the the head gasket Oil from the primary cover Oil from the primary transmission shaft seal Oil from the camshaft seal in the points chamber Oil from the kick start shaft on the transmission Engine oil getting into the primary Transmission oil getting into the primary Exhaust rocker covers Intake rocker cover Oil hose to rocker shafts Oil hoses to and from oil filter Blowby out of oil tank I agree with Bob Norum on the crankcase vent valve as a big help although I don't use one. I also believe that you never let the oil get to the high mark on the oil tank dipstick. Always check the oil after a run when you can be sure ALL the oil from the sump has been returned to the oil tank. Use heavy wt motorcycle oil. 40 or 50. except on a new rebuild. Park the engine with the pistons on the top of the stroke (compression). Do not overfill the transmission. Each one of the above problems has a fix. Some fixes are worse than an oil drip. Ask Dave Glover how his tach drive with a lip seal fixed his oil problem. Tach will never work again until he put a new camshaft into the engine. I'm just saying! 50 years ago the Nortons were built as inexpensive transportation that last for maybe 6 or 8 years. Keep us posted on your progress. I guess your question should be - my Norton leaks from these spots (fill in) and how should I address. Top Norton leak spots: 1. Head gasket- good luck. You might try the expensive CNW bolts and a good gasket sealer. 2. Tack Drive - upgraded seal Andover Norton Also the addition of a crankcase breather typically lessens the rate of oil leakage. Jim Comstock (Norton Machine Shop guru and engineer) has spent decades upgrading Norton's and has not achieved no leaks goal yet. We can certainly go over the Norton oil leak options at next meeting at Bob Katz's. Also an interesting read for the CB750 fans. https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/50th-anniversary-of-the-unveiling-of-the-honda-cb750 George ________________________________ From: DVNR on behalf of Chris Cabaj via DVNR Sent: Monday, October 29, 2018 12:10 PM To: bsafr at aol.com; dsellerspa at verizon.net; DVNR at mail.casano.com Subject: [dvnr] Delaware Valley Norton Riders w/ MkIII electric start Nortons Gentlemen, I will spend this winter eliminating any possible oil weeping or outright seeping on my Mk III electric start. Unlike British solutions ( o rings and crush washers) I want to use modern options and correct problems with non stone-age tools.? Sorry this sounds harsh but is not meant to. I'm an engineer and part time machinist so that's my approach. Any thoughts are welcome. My number is 973-462-5539. Cheers (bit of British) _______________________________________________ DVNR mailing list DVNR at mail.casano.com https://mailman.dudley.nu/mailman/listinfo/dvnr UNSUBSCRIBE: mail to DVNR-unsubscribe at mail.casano.com ? _______________________________________________ DVNR mailing list DVNR at mail.casano.com https://mailman.dudley.nu/mailman/listinfo/dvnr UNSUBSCRIBE: mail to DVNR-unsubscribe at mail.casano.com _______________________________________________ DVNR mailing list DVNR at mail.casano.com https://mailman.dudley.nu/mailman/listinfo/dvnr UNSUBSCRIBE: mail to DVNR-unsubscribe at mail.casano.com
