Due to anticipated cold weather the April Tune Up  meeting at Bob Katz's  Garage-Mahal at 426 Maple Ave. in Glenside, PA on April 8, 11AM will just be a friendly get together of Norton enthusiasts.  We also had no volunteer victims.  The good news is the new Tshirts arrived today and I will bring them Sunday.  They are pretty nice this year.

Dear DVNR members,

Once again I have the privilege of welcoming a new member to the DVNR. Patrick Wells mailed in a membership form this past week. Pat lives in New Britain (how appropriate for a British Bike Owner) and owns a 72 Combat Commando which he has owned for several years. When I spoke to him today he stated that he hoped to meet us at the Gathering on Sunday. Strange that he mentioned that his bike is hard starting, I just couldn't believe a Norton that can be cantankerous to start. Maybe collectively we can give him some support on turning his Commando in a two or three kick starter. He did state that he just had an electronic ignition (brand not mentioned) installed at Classic Cycle. Carburetor is a Mikuni.

Our Gathering happens Sunday. Lets hope for the best weather wise.

The weather reports are all over the place for Sunday morning.  Weather could be OK or drizzle or cold, who knows at this point.  As of now the gathering is still on.  They way the event is organized, it is not easy to switch to a raindate. I am encouraging those with enclosed trailers or portable shelters to bring them.  No shame.    Use your best judgement and dress warm for those planning on riding.

Hello DVNR guys,  

Having some top end work done and it seems my head has been badly abused.
I've been putting out feelers for a used RH 10 head in original, good condition.  I think mine is workable, ultimately- and as of now there is probably at least a couple hundred bucks in machine shop work already in it. 

Anyone? I see a new head is around 2500.00 more or less so maybe I can't afford a used one either! Ha.

Just floating an idea

There was talk at The Gathering of an alternate meet up for
our members. I haven't heard a word.

Suggestion - A DVNR only meet up on Sunday April 29.
We could meet at a public place such as a restaurant 
parking lot, share a nice lunch and follow it up with a ride. 

I would suggest a motorcycle friendly joint that our members have 
gone to before such as the Wycombe Public House or 
Orlando's Cafe in New Jersey. 

Another alternative would be to just meet up at a parking lot at a park
or Van Zandt airport at a given time- very biker friendly. 

Anyone have thoughts on that?

Subject: [dvnr] Gathering Update

Norton Riders,


The weather reports are all over the place for Sunday morning.  Weather 
could be OK or drizzle or cold, who knows at this point.  As of now the 
gathering is still on.  They way the event is organized, it is not easy to 
switch to a raindate. I am encouraging those with enclosed trailers or 
portable shelters to bring them.  No shame.    Use your best judgement and 
dress warm for those planning on riding.

I?m in.  Maybe meet up at Washington Crossing Park and ride to a lunch spot (Orlando?s). Also this Sun (Apr 22) is looking pretty good weather wise if more people can make this date. I am available for both.

Thanks to the brave who attended the Gathering of the Nortons.  Can't believe it was 80 the day before.  We have a lot of tshirts leftover.  At least cleanup was easy.  Give me some ideas if everyone wants a smaller gathering later in the year.  We could probably do something in conjunction with the Triumph National Rally like the Royal Enfield Club.


Looks like good weather this Sunday April 22nd so we can meet up at the Washingtons Crossing Park at 11AM for an easy ride to a motorcycle friendly lunch spot like Orlando's.


In May, I am going to Brit Euro Day in MD on May 20th http://classicmotorcycleday.org/.  It is the 50th anniversary of the Norton Commando celebration. It is the third Sunday so no meeting.  I will be dragging along a load of shirts that did not sell at the gathering and have a table set up.  All are welcome to join me.

 In June we have a trip to the Hunt club in NY planned that is the same weekend as  Reinbeck AMCA Rally June 15 and 16.  http://therhinebeckmeet.org/  Bill Casey will be sending out an email with full details.  We really need some RSVP's to figure out how much food and beverages are needed.

I think for those of us not going to Brit Euro Day we should still have a get together of some kind.

The Royal Enfield group joins the Triumph National every year for the past
3 years. I assign them their own space and they do as they please. Kind of
a party within a party. I would be happy to set up a similar situation with
the Norton group. We have plenty of room, good food and like minded people.
Please contact me soon and we can talk out the details. We would love to
have the Norton, BSA and Vincent groups join us. Heck we don't care what
you ride.

The Royal Enfield group joins the Triumph National every year for the past 3 years. I assign them their own space and they do as they please. Kind of a party within a party. I would be happy to set up a similar situation with the Norton group. We have plenty of room, good food and like minded people. Please contact me soon and we can talk out the details. We would love to have the Norton, BSA and Vincent groups join us. Heck we don't care what you ride.

Simple question.  I have a Coopers FT4654 filter on my bike.  Probably got
it from Frank at Clubman's.  Is there an equivalent in a name brand that I
can pick up at a local auto store ?  Finally getting to the Norton again.
It needs to be ridden !

Also, I need to send in dues.   Is it still 15 bucks ?   If Dan reads this
(or someone relays the message) , please send me his address where I can
send a check.
Seems like I'm always busy (as usual).  Will try to meet up with you all at
some point.

I know that most of you know the our annual main event "Gathering of the Nortons" took place on a very unfriendly motorcycle day. My wife and I left on my MKIII Norton at 8AM on Sunday morning to ride to Washington Crossing with plenty of cold weather gear under rain gear. Surprisingly there were quite a few of our club members preforming their assigned tasks as though the sun were shining. Maybe there were 100 to 125 persons present at one time or another. We ended the show at noon to head to warmer quarters. The temperature actually began falling through the morning. With the low turnout many of our members did not pay their dues as they usually do at the "Gathering".

In case you are wondering how you can get paid up there are several options. (1) You can print the 2018 membership form from the DVNR.org website. The form is on the "About" page at the bottom left as a pdf file. My mailing address is on the form.  (2) Tf you are not able to get the form from the website you can send me an email (keep you address private by emailing me directly) at dsellerspa at verizon.net. I will send the form to the address on record from previous membership forms or to a specific address you state in your email. (3) I don't know where and when our next regular meeting will be but I will bring membership forms with me.  Unpaid address will be purged from the mail server at the end of June.

I'm glad to see our mailserver getting some use. To remind everyone, you can send an email to EVERYONE on the membership list by addressing you recipient as dvnr at casano.com - you must send the mail from the email address that you receive your DVNR mail. You do not need to use the reply but as you have seen that works too.

I'm looking forward from hearing from some of you and I will get the forms out quickly when you ask.

Also we have plenty of new shirts that were not sold at the gathering. We may come up with a way to get some of these to our members. All the shirts were $20 at the "Gathering".
