We had a productive meeting yesterday, 9 June 2019, at the Kittle residence. I’d like to thank Andrea and Kevin for their hospitality and generosity. In attendance were ten people, including newcomers Cary and Zach, along with William Dudley, who we’d met at the last public Type-Out in April.<br>
<br>
Kevin greeted us with his new Ideal typewriter, which is in remarkable condition considering its age and rarity. We’d made a road trip last week to Tucson to pick up this machine. Kevin has installed a new purple ribbon, and the machine types very nicely considering it has yet to be thoroughly serviced.<br>
<br>
After snacking and socializing we engaged in an impromptu writing session initiated by a writing prompt on the topic of “My Perfect Summer.” It was wonderful hearing the sound of typewriters at work, and we enjoyed listening as some of the resulting pieces were read outloud.<br>
<br>
Some in attendance had to leave soon thereafter, which gave us time to talk in depth with William, who gave us very good advice on improving the Society’s social communication. As a result, we’ve made two important changes.<br>
<br>
The first is we now have this dedicated mailing list, called ABQTypers. Previously, I was using my own Yahoo email account to manage the Society’s communications. Your email addresses have now been added to the ABQTypers distribution list. Going forward, expect to receiving emails about our Society via this new email account.<br>
<br>
The second change is William has created a Facebook page for our Society. This will be used to announce upcoming events and for posting photos and articles about previous events. You do not need to have a Facebook account to access the page, though Facebook may bug you with pop-ups inducing you sign up; just ignore them and you’ll be able to access the page. However, keeping in mind that not all members of the Society are on Facebook, we will make every attempt to also send out all announcements and notifications via this email account as well. Here is a link to our Facebook page: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ABQTypers/" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.facebook.com/ABQTypers/</a><br>
